I'm so tired of winter, that I wanted to make a spring-colored card! The background is Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper Watercolor Wonder. I love the pinks, yellows, blues and greens!
Since the sketch required the use of tags, I pulled out my retired SU "Terrific Tags" set that include both a tag punch and a birthday stamp. Since the punch only makes inch-and-a-half tall tags, I cut a piece of Island Indigo cardstock to 1-1/4" wide by 2-3/4" long. This allowed me to fit the the cardstock into the punch from outside the opening so ONLY the top of the tag was punched (the punch width opening is 1-3/8"). I followed a similar process for the Whisper White panel where I wanted to stamp. For this layer, I cut the strip even narrower (1-1/8"), and pulled the top of the cardstock down a bit before punching so only the shoulders of the tag would be punched. This gave me a nice narrow matting all around the card once it was glued to the larger Island Indigo tag.
Since now I had a tag that was LONGER than my stamp, I first stamped the birthday tag with Wild Wasabi ink, then covered up the image I'd just stamped with a Post-It-Note so just a tiny smidgen of the first image showed beneath the Post-It-Note, and re-inked the stamp to stamp once again on the lower half of the tag. To make the alignment as good as possible, I used a Stamp-a-ma-jig and placed the shoulders of the stamp so it stamped on the Post-It-Note. There was some minor hand trimming to do afterwards, but I was pretty pleased how it turned out.
The cake image on the right-hand tag was from the SU Endless Birthday Wishes set. I stamped in in Groovy Guava, then hand colored the cake with Stampin' Write Markers in the colors Only Orange, Taken With Teal, Summer Sun, and Blush Blossom. If I were to do the card again, I would use Copic Markers which allow for more smoothing blending.
Finally, after attaching the tags to the zig-zag panel with Adhesive Foam Strips so they stood up from the card face to give it more depth, I attached an Old Olive Grosgrain bow that I had tied with a Bow-Easy bow making tool (I will forever be bow-challenged!!!) The bow was attached with Mini Glue Dots.
