Made for Sunday Stamps Color Challenge #137: http://sundaystamps.blogspot.com/ that required the use of at least 3 shades of brown plus a neutral.
I seem to be always in need of masculine birthday cards, and since my brother, who is a hunter and fisherman, has a birthday in November, a forest in fall seemed a perfect theme for this challenge.
I started out by rubbing the SU Soft Sky ink pad over almost the entire inside cover of the embossing folder, leaving an area at the bottom un-inked to serve as the forest floor. I wanted the "sky" to be subtle, so didn't get carried away applying the blue ink.
Next, I stamped the moose silhouette from the Stampin' Up "Pines" Definitely Decorative stamp set using Early Espresso on to the inside of the SU Woodlands embossing folder. I stamped it leaving a bit of space at the bottom of the folder as a leafy forest floor. Since the brown is so much darker than the sky, I didn't worry about stamping the moose directly on top of the blue area. Note the feet of the moose rest at the interface of the sky and forest floor.
I layed a 4"x5.25" piece of Crumb Cake cardstock onto the un-inked side of the embossing folder and carefully closed the folder so the cardstock wouldn't shift. The folder sandwich was run through my Big Shot to create the trees and apply the ink to the card panel.
I used a birch leaf from the SU "Among the Trees" stamp set to add some leaves to the forest floor and a few attached to the trees.
I wanted the birch tree trunks to have a bit more definition than just the embossed texture, so I use a stamping sponge to gently wipe the Early Espresso ink on the raised tree trunks. This served to darken the bark a bit to accent the grooves. I then sponged the dark ink all along the edges of the front panel to soften the transition to the Chocolate Chip card base.
The tag was made using the Scalloped Tag Topper punch for both the Early Espresso mat and the Crumb Cake sentiment layer of the tag. The darker mat was 1.5" and the sentiment layer was 1". Both were centered in the punch individually, then glued together after the Terrific Tag sentiment was stamped using Early Espresso ink.
Before gluing the embossed panel onto the base, the was wrapped twice with Baker's Twine and the tag attached.
I think my brother will like the card. He still hasn't forgiven me for getting married on the opening day of deer season 42 years ago :-D
