Sharing an art project made by my 7 years old daughter Catherine for our sweet, gentle elderly neighbor, Mr. Bob C., a retired Veteran whom we all love and respect, which is now framed on his refrigerator. It is also her Junior Guest Designer demonstration piece for this week challenge over at Outlawz Twisted Thursday. She was invited by TT team leader back in September to be their GDT for one week. She picked this week to make her appearance because she wanted to share this special piece with everyone.
A little about Catherine. She loves to draw and been drawing since age 5. She's currently taking the Young Rembrandt art class after school to help her explore different areas of art as well improve on her coloring. She doesn't like to color and prefer to reach for a pencil and papers any time.
The eagle is a very important symbol to us American and she thought it would be COOL to draw one with the flag in the background. First she drew out a rectangle. Next, using a picture of an eagle from a birds book she checked out from school as her usual aid, she sketched in the eagle and drew in lines for the stripes. Colored everything, except the eagle's beak with crayons. The beak she did with color pencil. Once done, she used my Taylored Expressions' starry Night cutting plate to cut out the tiny stars and glued to the flag. Then cut out the flag and glued to another white cardstock. She also wanted to add poppy. So we made the poppy using coffee filter dyed with red food color. I got her the Fiskars 6x6 Paper Piercing Flower stencil to encourage her to try the paper piercing technique out. She pierced the stems and leaves to the left of the window frame while I helped press down the stencil for her for safety. She then mount the poppy over with foam tape. She wanted a window frame around her drawing, so I helped cut out the window and then paper pierced around it to match her flower piercing design. I was allow to help out a little with any cutting and piercing of area that might consider unsafe for her to do herself since she only 7. And since we didn't have a stencil for the frame, I didn't want her to risk poking her fingers doing it herself. But after that done, she adhesive everything to a navy cardstock with double size tape.
Thanks so much for stopping by my gallery today and viewing my daughter's artwork for our sweet Veteran neighbor, Mr.Bob. Wishing you a lovely rest of your week. Hugs.
