WooHoo it is Tickle a Teapotter time of the month and Gabby aka gabalot has given us a brilliant Halloween story!!
After creating these spooky pumpkin-head birds, I decided that they were a bit too grim, so I made a happier looking pumpkin-head bird....he didn't look spooky enough...I found myself having a goldilocks moment. I decide to use both panels and create an 'inside-out" card. This is not a recognised technique, but then again neither is Smack & Squirt and I use that technique all the time.
The birds were coloured with various orange distress inks and I used a copic marker to darken areas on the spooky ones. The background is the usual smack and squirt technique (smack distress ink onto alfoil, squirt on a lot of water and use a foam blending tool to scrub on the inky water). I used 3D Crystal Effects on the happy birdÂ’s boots - it poured out everywhere (possibly because I cut the blocked nozzle off with a carving knife), I quickly used my finger tips to add some of the excess glaze to the mushroom border and over the hanging branches.
The happy bird, the tall spooky bird and the short spooky bird all have the same type of legs. I used a strip of black cardstock approx 4" x 5", hand drew lines across the strip using a white sharpie paint pen, added dots to every second row, and then I cut each birds individual legs from this prepared piece of cardstock. The other two spooky birds had their legs drawn directly onto the background. The birds are attached with 3D foam tape.
I haven't decorated the front of the card yet, I am going to wait until I find out who my tickle recipient is and hopefully create something suitable.
Thank you for looking and have a happy, crafty week.

Holy Mackerel! Those are some grim looking birdies! Are they chasing bird #1? He definitely looks worried. :-) I love your artistry and imagination Susie! Your background works superbly with the subjects. This is a keeper for sure!

Oh Susie - you have brightened my day with your scary pumpkin birds. Just been dealing with a hole in the lawn dug by foxes trying to get at the bird feeders. Nice patch that I had to re-seed - not sure if we have enough warm days left for it to take but lets wait and see. These birds would probably demolish the feeder without the foxes help!

I've just been eyeing that mushroom border up on eBay, so after the birds, that was the next thing to catch my eye - suitably autumnal. Our front lawn is full of little mushrooms that popped up overnight one night. Your pumpkin birds are such a hoot, Susie! What a neat way to create multiple legs at a time - thanks for sharing how. And the dangling black vines against the night sky - fab!!

OMGoodness, those are spooky characters!! Yikes! I wouldn't want those pumpkin heads behind me!!! I would be running and screaming and probably laughing as well, that is what I do when I run away excitedly or when I get the ball (soccer), anytime I'm trying to stay away from someone else and running I start laughing...it must look very strange to those around me!
Anyway, your card is so fun and perfect for Halloween! Those pumpkin head birds are JUST the thing! I love those super cool boots on the "happy" one! and the different socks on each leg! Speaking of legs, those always crack me up mate! so funny!
