This is for Anna's fun mixed media challenge "Pick a Colour, Any Colour".
The background was done using several techniques. I started with a long piece of aluminium foil and an A4 sheet of smooth white cardstock. Using Broken China, Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean distress inks, I did the wrinkle free technique until all the ink had had been used. At this point I cut the A4 card into 3 long pieces then I did the Smack & Squirt technique with the same colours again.
Smack the first colour on the al foil, squirt on a LOT of water then mop up the inky water with a foam blending tool and gently swish over the card. There was still plenty of ink left so I scrubbed it into the second strip of cardstock. I repeated smacking and squirting the other two colours.
In the spirit of mixed media I used Izink on each piece. Using the same sheet of al foil I put 3 drops of Izink on the foil, followed by a good squirt of water (on the foil AND the cardstock), I swished the first piece of cardstock around this inky-painty puddle, it was very wet so I took the second piece of cardstock and kissed the two pieces together - this made a great pattern on both pieces. Because I am really scungy when it comes to ink, I took the third piece of cardstock from the original A4 sheet which had only been wrinkle freed, sprayed a bucket load of water on the card and the foil, then dragged it through the remaining colour.
Izink dries with a beautiful pearly sheen, I have found it works best as a "top coat" over a matching coloured ink or paint. I am impatient so I dried the cards with a heatgun.
Using the third piece of cardstock, I stamped 3 PaperArtsy feathers with StazOn Blue Hawaii ink, fussy cut and inked edges with Faded Jeans distress ink. I stamped the Unity Stamps dream catcher straight onto the card and also on to a scrap to make an additional centre piece and little feathers. The centre circle is mounted with 3D foam, I then glued the feathers in place then sponged some Faded Jeans distress ink around the border before adhering to white card base.
I had a heap of fun making this. Thank you for looking and have a great weekend!!

I am impressed with all the techniques you used on this. And it turned out so beautiful! It sounds like fun. Sometimes I am too scared to try things like this. But I also understand about not wasting ink ;ink up as much as you can with the ink! LOL

LOVE that mixture of colors in your "smack, squirt and swirl" technique - you got a lot of mileage out of your ink by using the foil, and constantly adding more water!! Your background looks fantastic!! - Love the dream catcher and feathers - since my one grandson has a little bit of American Indian in his ancestry, this image really appeals to me - REALLY LOVE THIS, Susie!!

I love all the beautiful shades of blue you have achieved in your background. I would call it a dreamy blue colour - and the addition of the dream catcher - I mean what else could you use. Love reading all the details involved in the production. Have a great weekend too.

Fabulous effect with your layering your color! You always achieve that beautiful, mottled blend of color. Thanks for describing in detail how you did this! The dreamcatcher and feathers are so beautifully done and love, love, love the background stamp too! What a beauty, Susie!

All your techniques resulted in such a pretty blend of blues, Susie. I bet your hands
look like a work of art, too. The bkg looks like you are looking into a deep pool of water. The feathers are gorgeous. This has such a dream like quality...pperfect for a dream catcher.

Wowza, Susie - tucked this into my favourites. It's simply beautiful. I'm glad that you didn't get put off by the idea of monochromatic!! Both the background and your wonderful feathers are competing for my attention .

Susie, here is another on of those cards that I could look at all day. The amount of detail you create with your backgrounds is amazing. Love the blues and the dream catcher. It looks great with the long design. tfs
