I don't have any distress inks so I just tried this technique with my SU classic inks. I did use some salt on this but didn't get much effect from it. I got a few speckles on another of the backgrounds that I did. I'll use that one later. This one looked the coldest! So I put Ice skaters on it and a border of snowflakes covered with irredescent ice. I stamped blackberry snowflakes on the darkest part of the background and put rhinestones in the center of three of them.

This looks fabulous, I recognised the challenge the minute I saw it in the gallery. I love the results you have achieved using the SU inks, lovely colour combination too.

Lovely card, Pat, and your colors are stunning together. TH Distress Inks are designed to react with water...so maybe that is why your SU inks didn't work with the salt as you had hoped. But your results are wonderful and the pair of skaters make it look like they are on a frozen pond.

I used my classic ink pads also, Pat, since I don't own any distress inks. I tried inking a second time (like the video showed) but didn't like the results, so I did another piece just once. I love the results with the different shades being in opposite corners! Your snowflakes look Amazing with that ice ep, and I love the skaters; a very cold card indeed~

Gorgeous background! I've had most luck with salt on glossy card - but then that's no good for the distress background, and next to that I found watercolour paper works best for me. But I never get outstanding results with any of those techniques (Lydia had us using rice one week, and Susie uses couscous ;-).
The band of sparkly snowflakes is wonderful looking!

What a cool way to get a clear image on watercolor paper! Love that you cut out the skaters after coloring! What a beautiful border too, Pat! Love your card!
