I made four sets of these 4 coasters using Fire Brigade as a thank you gift for four fire fighters who camped out on the roof of one of our local fire halls for 8 days to raise over $50,000 for Muscular Dystrophy. I used black staz-on, chalked for color, and then used the Soot Technique for the burnt look. They turned out great! I hope they like them.

I guess I missed out on the soot technique- I never heard of it. But I am going to see if I can find anything on here about how to do it (or could you please PM me with details??) cause this is just wonderful! My cousin is a New York firefighter and just named Commissioner and I would love to make these to send to congtatulate him. You did an awesome job on them; I would not have thought to use this set for tiles but it is wonderful! TFS!
Sarahstampart, there is a guide to Soot Stamping in the Techniques section on this site. To get the best results with the tile, I held it edge side into the flame as if I were trying to light a piece of wood on fire. This gave the sides a nice finished looked too. I haven't actually tried the Soot Stamping on paper yet!

Wow is right. These are so cool.
I was asked for basket ideas for a local auction. I'd like to case your great idea. Did you seal them with the matt glaze after the soot technique?

wow, what a great job. so the burnt look how did you do this. you used black staz on instead of craft ink and then colored it with chalk is that correct and then burnt the coasters and then covered the coasters with sealant.
