Made for the Hope You Can Cling To Challenges 2014
We were asked to make a card inspired by our favourite book. Due to older eyes and a changing lifestyle I no longer read for pleasure. Sad I know. But when I did read. I read lots. I had library cards from three different districts at one point, and I frequented various locations in each of them, including their mobile services. No week was complete without a trip to at least one library.
That was then and this is now. The first book that popped into my head was a story I remember from my childhood, Tom's Midnight Garden. I only ever read it once but it must have made quite an impression on me. The time warp, altered realities and the bridging of a generation gap. For a long time I would wonder if I would ever be so lucky as to hear a clock chime that magical thirteenth time.
For the card, I knew I wanted to collage stamp an English style country garden, but my two attempts were not bringing me any of that magical joy. Not wanting to start from scratch again I looked long and hard at what I did have and decided that there was one section I did like, so I brutally cut everything else off. Chop, chop!! I was going to simply mount it onto plain cardstock but everything I tried looked too flat, so I made my own background. So after much stamping, sponging, stamping, sponging...... I had my card made. I love the nighttime garden in the background and how my salvaged sliver of garden looks like an opening into another magical garden. A perfect example how a unhappy situation can be turned into an adventure if we just let some imagination fill our minds.
THE END.

I have been an avid reader my whole life...I had not heard of your book...you know I will be compelled to check it out now! I loved reading your details and the journey of how this beautiful card came to fruition. Your colorful middle panel ROCKS and your night time garden with the script and lettering is a fascinating back ground for it. This is such a lovely card...and I love the comment at the end of your post!

Not only is this card so beautifully done but I enjoyed your description and tenacity! The embossed script on the background looks fabulous with the script carefully done around your image! What an impact this one makes!
