Love it! I'm almost wishing I had all of these ideas before and I could have done a really cool back to school camp with beaded pens or pencils, notebooks, folders, rulers, pencil cases...the possibilities are endless.

Thanks ladies! I got the rulers at Wal-Mart, not in the school supply section, they had some there but they were the ones with plastic on them. It was more like the office supply section. They had the makers name stamped in the middle of the ruler and I took some polish remover and wiped it off before I stamped it.

I am Benniesma's customer that did the ruler she posted. Also did another one under my name Niki if you want to see it. Do your rulers have any coating on them? Mine are totally unfinished wood. I didn't even spray them with varnish because I thought I might mess it up.

Hi Niki! First of all, thanks for the great idea, I just love those rulers!!
The rulers do not have a coating on them that I could tell. I got them at Wal-Mart and they had the makers name stamped on the front of them and I used some nail polish remover and wiped that right off before I stamped. I didn't put any coating on mine either. I will go to your gallery and check out your other one!! Thanks again :o) Pam

Pam, thanks for the info. Glad to know that Sharpie markers work as well as pencils. I ruined a few until I used Staz On ink. For some reason I thought I could use either acrylic paint or watercolors. The paint went over the ink and ruined the design and the watercolors bled into the wood. Not good.
These are adorable, thanks for the great idea! I just made one and use permapaque markers that I bought at Michaels. They are made for writing on almost any surface and they worked great.
