This is for LydiaÂ’s latest mixed media challengeÂ… Riced watercolouring.
Watercolour paint, watercolour paper and rice were the 3 main ingredients. The closest I had was Fresco Finish chalk acrylic paint, A4 canvas pad and cous cous.
This was so much fun. I watered the paint down and slapped it on a sheet of canvas with a wide brush, then I quickly sprinkled the dried cous cous on to it. Lydia’s instructions was to walk away, in fact ‘walk away’ was in capital letters….I walked away for 15 minutes but I struggle with ‘waiting’ so I decided to use my heart gun.
WARNING... The cous cous started to cook!!!! The smell of burning paint, canvas and cous cous is not an odour I will forget in a hurry. I digress, back to the canvas. I used a StazOn ink to stamp the flowers and reeds and added a lot of free hand strokes using a copic marker. I also added a few dabs of white distress paint.
In the spirit of mixed media I stenciled some molding paste in the corners. I think I will turn this into a cover for an A4 note book. Thank you for looking and I hope I havenÂ’t broken too many rules by substituting the ingredients. I wont push my luck by putting this in the F4A challenge..pearls....this is no ordinary cous cous, it is PEARL cous cous...
Have a great weekend everyone.

Susie, you have solved one of my biggest problems...no time for crafting. If I can combine making dinner with card making I would have so much more time. Your card turned out lovely. It has such a peaceful feel to it. The white modeling paste is a great addition. When I serve my new dish, rainbow rice, for dinner I will tell the family that it came from a SCS sister. My husband will be more patient with the time I spend on SCS if he thinks I am getting receipes.

I wondered about that too, if other shapes of "rice" would work so this is so cool to see. I am going to try this this weekend and will now know not to cook mine too haha.. I love how serene all the blues are on this Susie

You make me want to raid the food cabinets for creating backgrounds! What awesome texture you achieved on this in spite of the cooked couscous! Adding the modeling paste for interest was brilliant! Thanks for the giggles! Fantastic creation!

Susie, this is so cool! I love your blue and the stenciling. The wispy stamped grasses and flowers are so pretty! This will make a terrific cover! I didn't participate in this challenge because I have no rice! You'll remember I told you I'm on a healthy diet to lower my cholesterol - "if it tastes good don't eat it". Well, rice tastes good so it left my kitchen. The good news is, I've now lost 45 pounds and dropped my cholesterol another 76 points - right down to healthy. The DR. said I don't need to lose any more, but 10 more would make ME very happy!

Susie, somehow I missed this! I LOVE this shade of blue and as usual LOVED reading how you created this beauty...using cous cous was a BRILLIANT idea, cooked or not it added to an already awesome background giving it a wonderful splattered look. When this stamp set came out I just HAD to have it...and sadly have not used it at all. It looks so beautiful in your mixed media setting! Belatedly pinned and faved....

HAHAHAHAHAHA I was a little disappointed that no one stressed whether the rice was supposed to be cooked or not. People need to understand that some of us need specific directions. I NEVER just assume...because you KNOW what happens when you 'ASSUME' things? You make an A** out of U and ME! Get it?? ;)

oh, Susie, I'm glad you didn't burn your piece while you were burning the cous cous - because this is fantastic!
