If I didn't already know I was 1-layer card challenged, I would certainly know it now.
Am taking the OLC3 online class and decided to try my hand at the Stamp Layering Technique.
First problem -- even my dazzling versamark did not want to show up on any of the white cardstocks I tried.
Next, I tried to somewhat "copy the teacher's work" with my circle stamps. But, for whatever reason, it just was not coming together for me.
I was just about ready to give up on it when I noticed a piece of scrap cardstock where I had been testing colors and alignment for my sentiment stamp and realized that what I was seeing held some promise. So I grabbed another card base, stamped the yellow dots and the sentiment and used a black marker to create a border. Better, but the rest of the card just looked too dead to me. Next, I noticed a tube of yellow and gray washi tapes and pulled out one of the gray ones and added it to the top and bottom of the focal panel. Oops...too much going on now and I still didn't like the whitespace. {sigh!}
So out came the paper cutter. I cut out the focal panel and washi tape, trimming so the washi was about half its original width. I cut a base of the sparkly textured Bazzill cardstock for my new base and attached my cut panel.
And, VOILA!! 3 hours later, an ALMOST one layer card that ALMOST used 2 of the class techniques -- Stamp Layering and Graffiti. (I say almost on the graffiti as SU was nice enough to have built the graffiti for me, rather than letting me to my own devices attempting to create my own.)
Yep, I am DEFINITELY OLC-challenged. But, hey, I'm happy with the ultimate result.
Edited to add: Decided to spice up my original and add some gemstones to the card. NOW the stamper is happy.

You ended up with a great design ... so it was all worth it in the end Good for you for sticking with this ... and good for you for challenging yourself to a one-layer card course. I also struggle with OLC so avoid those classes ... but maybe I should take one and learn some things to help me overcome my phobia

Debbie, I am also one layer challenged. I would never have guessed your card was only one layer with your faux borders and washi tape. Great job and thanks for sticking with it my friend.
