Hello ladies, I should have titled this The Leaning Lighthouse! All I can say about this card is...ugh.
Things didn't start out good with this card when I realized that I sold one of my two lighthouse stamps last year. I wanted to use the one I sold so, I had to settle for this one. I stamped my image and was pretty happy with my water coloring (I'm no pro at that!) UNTIL I decided to frame it. First, I didn't cut the paper with the image on it straight but, I didn't realize it. Then I spent way to much time trying to make a driftwood style frame. I don't have any rectangular frame dies so I made it by hand. Ever try to miter 1/4" corners? UGH again. I finished my framing and was fairly pleased with the results until I held it up and realized that the image was slanted. Oh yeh...because I cut it that way. See the horizon? YES, it's suppose to be straight, NOT sloping to the East!!!! I used a few colorful adjectives, tossed it on my desk, and walked away. How could I possibly send "this" to a fellow stamper??
An hour later I came back to my desk to face my reality. It's too late to start again, I just have to finish the card. Then I thought, what if try and disguise it?? I could make a really detailed background, ya know, with sponging or a map, some stitching, a compass or an anchor and maybe that would pull ones focus from the main image. But after 3 different background attempts and out of shear frustration, it became CAS. So...it is what it is.
Whom ever is the recipient of this card will have to remember my troubles with the lighthouse image and just have a chuckle on me! TFL
Hugs, Robin

Laughing here from your story. Nothing is wrong with the way you put together---are no mistakes in stamping---LOL--the Leaning Tower Pisa leans so why not your lighthouse, you could say it is the water making it look that way. When you said you sold stamp you wanted makes me say never sell or give away as that is when you want it.. Your card is pretty, and I could never miter my corners and coloring is great.

If you ever decide to miter the corners again, here's a trick. Use a piece of paper as your set square. Cut your four strips and tack them together (from the back) in a square cut from the inside corner to the outside corner (this is called a double cut) then discard the 2 small cut pieces. Should fit together perfectly in an exact square.

Oh Robin - it's so true that we're our own harshest critics! You and Salome/Carmen both looking for forbearance from whoever gets your cards, and I can tell you I'd be thrilled with either
We're in the middle of picking out photos for printing from our last (blushes) three holidays, and especially in the sea photos you wouldn't believe how many crooked horizons there are.
I didn't even notice yours, I just saw a lovely elegant CAS card, and the concept of the driftwood frame is genius.
Bummer on having sold the stamp you really wanted to use - isn't that just typical!

Oh deary me, we need to sit down and have a long chat. This is fabulous, everything about it is wonderful. I love the mitred corners and the layers, the twine and most of all your beautiful water coloured scene. Great story too.

Well, Robin, leaning or not - I think this wonderful. Your soft coloring is perfect. I am so glad you shared your story. We all have those days. BUT I am especially glad you shared about selling a stamp and now wishing you still had it. I just mentioned to another stamper that I should consider selling some of mine to make room for new. Not anymore - LOL. back to your card, I think it is fabulous.
