One of the few cards I've made this year that wasn't for a challenge!
This card began life when I was trying a fresco technique dizzymommie (Janelle) posted on her blog (tried to link the tutorial but it didn't work - sorry!). I even used the same stamp - but I made a complete mess of it! In total disgust I painted it over completely with Gesso and left it on my work table. The longer it sat the more the original flower color bled through, so I decided to overstamp as close as possible to the original ,and color the flowers with watercolor pencil. I misted with water to soften the color and when it was dry added gold Sharpie paint pen to the pistils (stamens?). I rubbed dust in sepia tones from soft pastels around the flowers, then spritzed with gold Shimmer Spritz. I liked the way it came out, so I used it to make a card I needed for a wedding shower.
The couple are both "horsy", and I thought the leather monogram would be a cool touch. It was an accidental find at HL. I ran it through an embossing folder and sponged it with Walnut Stain and Broken China Distress Inks. Rubbed a little gold ink in spots for a tie-in to the flower layer, although it's really more subtle than it looks in the pic.
I cut a shaped card base from kraft and layered the front with core Impressions Cosmo Cricket paper that I sanded and sponged with Antique Linen Distress Ink. I added a ribbon and bow (that I actually tied -YAY! I'm SO bow-challenged) and called it finished - the outside, anyway.
Sheesh - have I written a book? Anyway, thanks for looking!
