As some of you know I lost my mom just a few days before Christmas, needless to say I've had to write a "few" thank you cards. I just couldn't bring myself to use those cheap, tacky cards that the funeral home gives you, so as therapy made some of my own (and thanks to a lot of my Michigan Mingler friends I used a lot of theirs that we've exchanged as swaps over the years as well!)
I did the Faux Silk techique on this set of cards with a tissue that someone handed me at mom's funeral. I remember thinking that it was to pretty to blow my nose on so I stuck it away. Fast forward a few weeks and it became time to start cleaning out mom's stuff. Lordy, the things we've found and we're only about a quarter of the way done! So I said to myself, "Self, in 40 years your kids are going to find a neatly folded up tissue that means absolutely nothing to them because you thought it was too pretty to blow your nose one, and they're gonna be thinking, 'why did mom save this?' just like you are now"
So I came home and made this Ensemble with that tissue. I haven't put sentiments on them yet, but I have them ready in case I need to send another Thank you or Sympathy card.
You can find the tutorial for Faux Silk in the Resources section at the upper right hand corner here on SCS.
Other than that tissue and a couple of pieces of ribbon that I won from the "Stamp Simply Ribbon Store" during "Hope You Can Cling Too" challenges, all other supplies are Stampin' Up!
If you made it this far, thanks for listening to my ramble {{{Hugs, Patty}}}

Patty, I hope this has been a little therapeutic for you. Your story touches the heart indeed. I love your beautiful faux silk creations ... and I'm with you >> that tissue is too pretty for noses! God Bless You as you journey the road of healing your heart.

They are all fantastic and what a wonderful way to use the tissue, I have a lot of my Aunts stuff and I may have to look through it and see what I can use on my cards?? I never thought about it.

gives me inspiration to use the napkins that I've collected just for a special occasion. what could be more special than a friend in need of a kind note.
It's been almost a year since you lost your mom. Mine passed away on January 1. Like you, I refuse to use the provided cards (especially for my friends) so today was card-therapy day to make some thank you cards. I've been struggling and so looking I found your cards. I'd forgotten about this technique and it will be perfect. Thanks for the inspiration.

I love the classy approach to these cards. Your mom would love to see these creations. You've inspired me to use up some "special" pieces too. Thanks for sharing.
