Jennifer recently returned from a trip to Lancaster County, PA, and challenged us to create a one layer card inspired by the PA Dutch hex signs. I grew up not far from Lancaster County, and these hex signs were everywhere. We even learned about them in first grade. I currently live not too much farther away, but here in NJ there are no hex signs. I miss them.
So my card is less "inspired by" and more an attempt to recreate a hex sign. Most of my stamps are wholly inappropriate for this, but luckily I had a few that fit. The large star is from the oldest set of stamps I own - they are foam and came with a "decorating with stamps" book. Long before I ever made a card, I used another from the set to create a border along the top of my bathroom wall. These aren't great for cardmaking. The points are crooked and the material doesn't pick up ink well. But it was a great base for my image. The hearts were an easy choice. The center was challenging. I drew the circle with a sharpie pen, and used a Stampin Up snowflake stamp to pick up some more red. A few dots in the green and my hex sign was complete!
