I couldn't find an inexpensive clock for my craftroom that went with the theme of the room, so I decided to make one. I spent all night (10 hours) making this clock, mostly because it took me forever to decide which embelishments to use. The clock itself is a DIY clock (by Sierra Paper Crafts) from my local craftstore. You take off the faceplate and hands to decorate it however you want, then put it all back together. I decided that my favorite stamp set, Sock Monkey, would be the most appropriate to the funky, bright decor of my room.
The monkey was colored using a brayer and SU! Crumb Cake ink, then the Linen background stamp was used with Crumb Cake over the top of the brayered color.
The paint brush, pallet, buckets and monkey's beret are all hand drawn. If you look closely, you can see that all the paint on the tools and wagon looks wet; I used Crystal Effects over markers to create that wet look. I modified the stamped image of the monkey by hand to make him stand up and hold his tools. The wagon's paint looks weathered/cracked from using the Cracked Glass Technique. The wagon wheels are embossed and the hubcaps are made of large silver eyelets.
The word "create!" is painted chipboard embossed in a few spots with shiny red powder to look like fresh paint.
The clock "numbers" are made from punches, buttons and stickers. The background paper is sponged with white craft ink, heavily in the center, gradually fading out about 2 inches from the edge, then I used a stencil I made with three different sizes on circle punches, and I sponged the white ink to make pale "bubbles" around the entire perimeter.
TFL! If you have questions about this project, drop me a line.
