I have a friend who carries my greeting cards in her store and she and her husband generally commission me to make cards for special occassions for each other and these cards usually become display items at the store, so I try to make sure they're WOW items since they're up all year. My friend loves the Victorian look and her DH collects antiques. This is the card for her from her husband this year.
I thought that Dawn did a masterful scene with this church. My friend has a white ceramic church as part of her Christmas display at the store and so I want to use this image and keep the church white. I used different tree stamps from a variety of sources.
I scanned some yellowed sheet music that I have and sized it to fit the card. I tore the edges and sponged some mustard and chocolate chip ink on this to age it. After that dried, I brushed a Versamark pad over spots on the edges and added gold embossing powder. I also lightly sprinkled some gold powder on the music background to add a suble touch of gold. This will melt in place if you heat from the back.
The main panel image was stamped onto Shimmer White CS and colored with watercolor crayons and markers. I sponged the sky and added lots of glitter and some liquid applique to the close up trees.
I did a small double ribbon using my mini bowdabra and then embellished that with a holly leaf punched with my MS punch. I added three faux brads for berries.
When I laid all these elements out on the 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 card base, it still felt like it needed something. I used a jumbo holly wheel to ink the base card with some versamark ink. I wanted this to be subtle, but I also wanted to tie in the gold elements of the card, so I lightly sprinked gold EP over the card. I did not want to completely cover the wheeled image with powder. I ended up with a kind of worn look which I love.
I still felt like it needed something, so I took three of the fleur de lis punch outs from the border and embossed them with gold powder and made a row of them above the image. I added a small gold half pearl to the center of each.
Thanks for looking.

Oh Kathy, this is such a beautiful piece of work!! I think both the husband and the wife are going to love this. The antiqued edges really add to the vintage feel. The beautiful scene with the church and deer is gorgeous. I love all of the glitter which makes it look like fresh snow has fallen. :>)
