The fireworks from the Canada Day and July Fourth stamp sets are just begging for the Reverse JosephÂ’s Coat technique. IÂ’m trying to bring some more color into my Canada Day cards, since the basic colors are just red and white and that can be quite limiting. Let me know what you think about my additions of color: too much? or is it a nice change?
Reverse JosephÂ’s Coat tips
- Start with glossy card stock (you can use other card stock, but I think glossy is best)
- I used sponge daubers to create overlapping circles of ink color (in one area I used reds and oranges, in another I used blues and greens)
- Use your embossing buddy to wipe down the glossy card stock... this will prevent stray embossing powder from sticking.
- Plan your fireworks pattern on scrap paper first (if not plan on going through lots of glossy card stock).
- Then stamp your fireworks with versamark and emboss with clear embossing powder. Remember glossy card stock is slippery so make sure you place and remove your stamp carefully.
- Brayer over the whole design in a dark ink (I used Basic Black). If you donÂ’t have a brayer use a sponge or sponge dauber. The sponge will also help get into the detailed areas of the stamped image.
- After your glossy paper is dark enough, go over the glossy card stock with a cotton ball to remove excess ink from the embossed areas.
Happy Canada Day!!

Fantastic! I love the extra colours, very jazzy. You could certainly add more yellow, too! THis technique is a great idea for these fireworks! (Chalkboard would be another too...)
I love the way you used the 'happy' stamp!
