This is my attempt at the Gesso Resist Technique (altered to fit my budget). I live at least an hour from any craft store so the only place to buy gesso was walmart. I wasn't going to spend $10 for gesso that I might only use once, so I thought I would have to pass on this technique. Then I saw Letmecrop's post about just using white craft paint to do a white wash. Well, for $.90 I could give that a try. I used white acrylic paint and water and painted my page. I decided not to use newspaper or magazine. I printed Psalm 51 on cardstock. I used the flowers from my clearly inspired brushed florals set, versamark ink and UTEE. There were spots where the UTEE blew off of the versamark and left little dots. I kinda like the randomness of those dots. I used Adirondack wildflower ink to sponge over the page. I distressed the edges added brads and a sentiment. What do you think?
Not bad for a lot of substitutes.

This is sooooo beautiful, Marilynn! I love that you printed out a page of scripture. It really looks wonderful. I can't tell a difference between your and others who used Gesso. It has such a dreamy, soft quality. Lovely job!!!

I just knew, after I saw your post that you had no gesso, that you'd be along later with your own perfect alternative . Great idea to print your own text, too.
