I wanted a way I can store my doll's hats nicely in her wardrobe trunk. I made these Barbie-sized hat boxes from paper mache boxes, acrylic paint, eyelets, cotton yarn, and Crystal Effects. For the pink and brown box, I used Parisian Summer DSP and the Barbie logo printed from my computer. For the blue and yellow box I used Bella Birds DSP and alphabet stamps (not sure of the brand.)
I also used a Dremel to cut and sand the pink/brown box to the right size. For both boxes, I used a power drill with 1/8" general purpose drill bit to make holes for the eyelets, and a Crop-a-dile II to set the eyelets.
The yarn is woven through the holes in such a way so that when the handle is pulled it locks down the lid.
PS - to see the scale, check out my other pic of Babs holding the hat boxes.

Thisis way too cute and a clever way to make projects out of paper instead of scouring the stores to find the perfect item! Great creativty! Makes me want to get back into making things for Barbie - inspiring! TFS!

Thank you so much, Patti! There are other things I did to organize Babs' wardrobe trunk but I didn't use scrapbooking or stamping tools on those. I will be posting them to my blog soon though. I'm glad you like my hat boxes!
Even if people aren't into Barbie they can still use this idea to make favor boxes. That is what I'm thinking of doing (if I ever get married, that is!) :-)
