Easter memories come flooding back with this Easter Bonnet made so many many years ago.
A cheap straw hat was the basis and a paper bowl plate added to build upward. Chickens made from cotton wool bobs glued together with features added. Carnations from crepe paper which has faded over the years. The coloured eggs were made at school as were the Grandpa and Grandma sweethearts on the back. Various rabbits & chickies were saved over the years from Easter treats. Am I a hoarder.... don't ask LOL.... Ribbons came from flowers received recently & Sweetheart sign from Valentine Flowers. There are also flowers from a flower girl basket & at the back you can see yellow leis - New Year's Eve party.
All of this was done the night before when 'the babe' said Mummy I need an Easter Bonnet for tomorrow. Yes! An only daughter & yes I sat up most of the night. Rummaging around in my box of tricks I found yellow satin blanket binding which I guess I had inherited from my Mum and her Mum.... you just can't throw it out.... anyway it served as a magnificent tie for the Bonnet....
Yes!!! she won first prize & over the years I have gained some chocolate treats from further winnings in Easter Bonnet Parades..... but best of all are the memories..... it was great fun
