The challenge for today was to use paper pleating on our cards. It was a good one. Thanks DFriley for a challenge that makes an awesome embellishment for a card.
I have had a love - hate relationship with the sock monkey set. I HAD to have it and then I haven't liked it ever since I got it. Never looked right every time I tried it. Too flat of an image and really hard to give it depth.
I was on Marianne's blog I Like Markers and was readding some of her older posts and she was talking about shading with lines to give images more depth. I've tried it with other images and it looks great so I thought late 2 nights ago that I wanted to try it with the sock monkey set.
So I stamped the monkey on watercolour paper and then I drew in my shading lines on the monkey and watercoloured it. Then I cut him out.
I did my paper pleating in two layers and sewed a seam down the middle of both and stacked them along with a piece of ribbon from Stamping Bella. I used my nesties to cut the plain and scalloped hearts and put those between the ribbon and the pleating, put the monkey on top with his Be Mine heart and then added a little shading below the monkey and the baubles to his right.
I sponged my card base and put my card together.
This was a fun challenge and a technique that I probably will use again to make a card look a little bit more fancy.
Hope you like my card as much as I enjoyed making it. TFL and thanks for your comments.

The sock monkey i amazing! I like that it looks like a well loved stuffed animal. The large heart is so pretty as well as your double pleat elements. SO PRETTY, Lori!

Great card! I think you have done the best job with the Monkey that I've seen yet. Great shading and coloring!
