I made this card for the November VSN, “Cabaret”. Robyn (Robyn O) used one of my most favorite “old” movies as her inspiration for this challenge in which she asked us to create a Christmas card honoring our service personnel. She also asked us to use any technique we wanted to give the effect of falling snow.
I made this card to mail to the soldier in Iraq that our family has adopted. We adopt servicemen through SoldiersÂ’ Angels (www.soldiersangels.com) which is a fabulous group that pairs families with soldiers who donÂ’t have a lot of support stateside. When you write to these incredibly brave men and women and you hear first hand from them what they have to deal with, you get a whole different perspective on what itÂ’s really like for them over there.
Thanks, Robyn, for acknowledging the soldiers, and for encouraging everyone who made cards for this challenge to send them to the soldiers via Cards for a Cause and some other sources Robyn listed in the thread for this challenge.
As for the card, my patriotic snowman is standing out in a blizzard! I used a hair brush and white acrylic paint to make the snow. (IÂ’ll post instructions on my blog one of these days and IÂ’ll put a note here, too, when I do!).
To make him seem like heÂ’s IN the snowstorm, I used a piece of transparency film and hairbrushed snow on the mylar and covered him with that. The hat and flag are stickers.
I had just received this designer paper this week and it was perfect for this challenge. I got it from Mothers and Daughters Creations with the idea of using it for either a card or a scrap book page for our soldier. ItÂ’s printed on both sides and I punched the stars from the scraps and literally cut out the white stars. No other embellishments are needed.
