I tried Pearl Ex with arabic gum and didn't like it, then tried it with water (like the clerk at my local store had suggested) and it worked! Who knew... I sprayed my cardstock with fixative afterwards. The result is VERY shiny!

I set a small amount of Pearl Ex aside in an aluminum plate, wet my paintbrush and picked up a little bit of PE powder in the plate, then I did a few swirls in the plate to mix the Pearl Ex and the water on the paintbrush and painted with it. I wet my paintbrush each time I wanted to pick up more powder. It worked great! I added the fixative to be on the safe side, but the Pearl Ex "paint" did hold after it dried. I was pretty impressed! (I was so skeptical when I was told about mixing the pigment with water alone.)
I don't have a waterbrush at home, but I'm thinking it might work with it, too.
I also read on the PE Website that you can use arabic gum by mixing one part arabic gum for four parts of powder. Maybe my proportions were off when I tried it, which would explain why I didn't like the result it produced.
