It's Sabrina here as your hostess this week. The film 101 Dalmatians was first released on this date back in 1961. Can we get 101 dogs of any description in the gallery? Bonus virtual points for dalmatians, but all breeds and mongrels are welcome. Coincidentally, when I was cycling home from work yesterday I was behinf s ban with a Dalmatian sitting in the back.
As I grew up without television, I could identify with Cadpig so loving watching the television that the Badun brothers enjoyed, but I must say that overall as a book I think I preferred Twilight Barking.
If you've watched the film or read the book, you will know that the puppies start out white and then develop their spots - generally black, though other colours are also possible. The first record of the breed dates back to 1375, in Dalmatia (present day Croatia).
Dalmatians are associated with firefighting, particularly in the United States. In the days of horse-drawn fire engines, dogs would guard the horses, who could easily become uncomfortable at the scene of a fire.Dalmatians were a popular breed for this job, due to their natural affinity to horses and history of being used as carriage dogs
