Carla here with this week's Ways to Use It challenge. It's hot and sticky out there and we're smack dab in the middle of the Dog Days of Summer!
Why do we call these hot, sultry days “dog days”? It started waaaaaay back when people drew images in the sky by “connecting the dots” of stars. They saw images of bears, (Ursa Major and Ursa Minor), twins, (Gemini), a bull, (Taurus), and dogs, (Canis Major and Canis Minor).
The brightest of the stars in Canis Major (the big dog) is Sirius, which also happens to be the brightest star in the night sky. In fact, it is so bright that the ancient Romans thought that the earth received heat from it. During late July Sirius is in conjunction with the sun, and the ancients believed that its heat added to the heat of the sun, creating a stretch of hot and sultry weather. They named this period of time, from 20 days before the conjunction to 20 days after, “dog days” after the dog star.
Challenge translation:Since it's hot and sticky, let's focus on the sticky part! Get out your dimensional tape and pop up your image and/or sentiment. Bonus if you use either dogs or stars for your card!
When you've finished your creation, upload your card with the keywordWT698 and then come back and share a link here - that makes it easy for people to find your card. It's especially appreciated by the hostesses!!
If you're not sure how to add a link, here's how:
1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one for your card in the gallery, and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.
Here's the link for our WT698 gallery. Take a look and spread some love around by leaving comments for your fellow crafters!
Thank you Cathy, Lisa, Sabrina and Toni for the fabulous samples!

And here's a close-up of the plane. I was delighted to find long narrow strips of foam tape last time I was in our local craft store - much easier than cutting up the normal stuff.
Inspired by Sabrina's wonderful card Birthday Fireworks- I dry embossed my fireworks, sponging on color, then burnishing the background a bit. Added die cut metallic stars, cut from a foil tea bag packet, and added a gold glittery star for my sentiment embellishment. My truckload of canines are fussy cut with foam dimensional squares giving them a "3-D" effect. Here's loads of dogs

A fun challenge- I combined with a Christmas Crazy challenge, so had to be creative with the stars- sequins : ) The image is popped up on dimensionals- you can see it HERE
I followed this week's tutorial and used the foam adhesive to pop the tree up on the front of my card. Thanks for the interesting information about the Dog Days of Summer. I had no idea where that came from.
My husband recently requested a special card for a friend using a specific image and sentiment. When I read this challenge, I knew it was time to get to work on my creation:
I went back to work this week, which has really put a crimp in my card making time!! I looked at the challenge last night and then mused about it all day until I could get to it. I have always loved the song "When You Wish Upon A Star" because of the rest of the refrain: "...makes no difference who you are. Anything your heart desires will come to you."
I always love Carla's challenges. My hot summer days. This is for my grand daughter who thinks everything shouldn't be purple. She wears a purple dress each day with purple shoes and carries a purple purse and wears purple sunglasses, it drives a little blue car with her sister in tow and her cat.
Sorry Carla, she loves cats so I had to go with cats even though my first love is dogs.
