Default TLC438 ~ Metal Foil Tape Art ~ (7/15/13)

Happy Monday Everyone~!

Today is my birthday, so I am taking the day off!
BUT I have a FANTASTIC technique today to share that my amazing artista friend, Jane France, uses a lot, and I know you will SWOON when you see her samples. Seriously. You. Will. Swoon.

It may take some going out and getting supplies, but I honestly hope you will try this, no matter when it is during the next week or month! I will be checking back to see what everyone makes for awhile!

It's called Metal Foil Tape Art.

You will need some metal aluminum tape from the hardware store (self adhesive metallic tape), some plasterboard (drywall) tape or mesh, and some black acrylic paint.

Decide what you want on your project covered with the metal. It could be everything or just a portion.
Add other elements to your project for dimension (such as mesh or drywall tape).
Cut random-sized pieces of tape and attach to your project.
Use different rollers, pens, and other tools to create textures and designs on your metal. Use a ball stylus to push the metal down around elements that are more 3D or prominent.
Cover the entire metal project with black acrylic paint. Take a tissue or paper towel and rub the paint off until you get the look you want.
Add other textures or colors as you desire.

Here is a fun time-lapse video showing this technique.

I have uploaded three of Jane's amazing cards using this technique below. As soon as her card gets in the gallery for TLC438, you will be able to leave her comments there.

I know you will love the look of this, so you have to try it!

Thank you, Jane, for being our guest hostess this week!

Jane's sample: FOILED AGAIN

This sounds fun, Judy!
Happy Birthday .

I've been looking for this metal tape for a while now; given that it took me three years of looking to find dry wall mesh tape here, don't hold your breath on seeing a card from me any time soon, LOL. Our DIY stores don't seem to carry the same range as yours.

HAPPY Birthday Judy! Jane's cards are fantastic! Like Sabrina and Wendy, I don't have any of the supplies. I have seen this and other foil tape techniques used by bloggers I follow, who are fans of Andy Skinner, Tim Holtz and other mixed media artists. I haven't seen any projects quite like Jane's and they rock so all of these items are on my shopping list.

Happy birthday, Judy! None of those supplies are in my immediate grasp, so it may be a while before I would get to something like this. The samples are cute and the U-tube video was very instructive.

Eeeeeeek!! I LOVE this challenge, and cannot wait to try it! Sadly, I cannot do anything with it today, even though I have the supplies (who knew, and why, of all you talented artists and crafters out there, would I have this stuff?) I don't have the metal texture roller thingies or the copper paste, which I just fell in love with....oh dear, I need a bigger house and a bigger paycheck!

Happy Birthday Judy! And a big thank you to you and Jane for presenting this challenge!

Happy Birthday, Judy! Have a wonderful day and make some memories!
Thank you for the great challenge (loved the video). I've done this before. The first time I saw this technique I was living in Phoenix. I took an altered art class at one of the local stamp stores. So many fun ideas for this type of media too. Don't just think of cards. How about a journal cover, a mini book cover, cover a wooden frame - it's endless. This is one of those fun projects where you don't have to be precise. And ... since today is the first day of my summer break, I hope I'll get a chance to play. Give me some time to think something up and I'll see you back later. Now, go and enjoy some cake and ice cream, Judy!

Sending Birthday Hugs,
Susie ~

Happy Birthday, Judy! I was inspired by the same You tube video several months ago and have proceeded to make many cards using some of the techniques she showed in her video. This is my first time responding in a thread. I was finally able to upload 2 cards for the first time- it only took me all day to figure out how to make the pictures smaller!!! Geeze. Take a look at my 2 picture gallery! Hopefully more to come.

Heart TLC438 Shiny Celebration

My dear husband dug out some UL branded metal tape, which I embossed with Sizzix's Square Lattice. I kept the household metal foil larger background, embossed with CB's Bloom Dots, and added some bling and a butterfly. Put a dc Lacey Circles gold frame for contrast. Here's Shiny Celebration

All you need is the keyword added: TLC438.
There is a spot in the description when you upload to add it!

Happy Birthday .

I've been looking for this metal tape for a while now; given that it took me three years of looking to find dry wall mesh tape here, don't hold your breath on seeing a card from me any time soon, LOL. Our DIY stores don't seem to carry the same range as yours.
To Cook22 If it helps, sometimes foil tape is called Flashing tape and if Dublin has a electronic supply store, you can buy copper tape in that kind of a store as it is used for shielding. It is made by 3M but it is a bit more expensive than Flashing tape.

You can make your own foil tape too. If you have any kind of sticker making machine, like the Xyron company makes a 1.5", 2.5" and a 5" Create-a-sticker machines and some heavy duty aluminum cooking foil, all you need to do is cut strips of the aluminum foil wide enough to fit into the machine and run it through. I use this method when I run out.
I think there are many videos on YouTube showing how to make the tape as well.

If none of this works for you, I wouldn't mind sending you a roll of foil tape.
We crafters and cardmakers have to stick together, right? ;)

Just let me know your name and address and I will get it out to you by the end of the week!!
