I've spent 4 hours going through news letters looking for where I read where a member posted what her favorite water color paper was and I can up empty. I thought I'd like to try a paper change with my prism pencils. I normally color on Walmart's card-stock paper which is very smooth. I went to Hobby Lobby today and looked at their selection and decided rather that start a WC paper collection of the wrong paper like I did trying to find a shampoo I liked lol .... I thought it would be smarter just to ask for help and ask all of you very experienced members what your thoughts are. I found today one brand that was smooth on both sides and the remaining brands were textured on one side and some what smooth on the other. I have never colored on such a textured paper before like I saw today. I would appreciate your help. Thanks, Linda
To use with Prism Colors. What I was looking for talked about Prism colors grabbing the WC paper better. I am a snowbird and I forgot my paper things for gamsol. So I that's why I was at HL and checked out there WC paper.
Oh, ok! I like to use Bristol paper for colored pencil - the one I have is in a green pad and it is Canson XL Recycled Bristol. It's textured/toothy on one side and smooth on the other.
Where do you buy it? I have never used WC Paper so please forgive my stupid question which side do you color on to be able to blend the colors? Thanks for the moving my question to the correct area. Linda
Please feel free to ask lots of questions! That's one of the great things about our community - lots of experience and people willing to share. Never feel bad - we love it!
Since you have a walmart, I get the Canson blue covered watercolor pads there. I use the back side if I am stamping..don't have my Tonic yet, but have found out that with veramark detailed black ink and a piece of cheap art foam under the paper, it get sharp details and you can use either side for coloring, either with regular colored pencils (used to take images to work for the ones that used straight pencils and they loved them) and I use watercolor pencils..and pretty cheap 140lb paper.
Thanks to all the video's that you shared with me which sent me off looking at others after the video ended. I got alot of good advice. I and going to see if I can find the Bristol made by Canson locally. I don't handle waiting well when I want to try something. Like when I get a new stamp I've been waiting to buy. I did watch alot of videos off the ones you shared about colored pencils and I feel some of my frustration is is coming from the paper choice and my prism's. The easy change if first the paper. I have more than one issue with my prism's that this summer I will invest in a different colored pencil set. I have been unable to find a art supply store that sells pencils so when we go who I'll look there and see if I can find a store that sells Fiber Castel's. I'd like to buy a few and see if that is what is what I want. All my help is go greatly appreciated. You all gave me so much help. Thanks again, Linda
I use Strathmore 300 Bristol (yellow pad) and I buy it at Michael's when they put in on sale (buy 2 get 1 free or 50% coupon) Aaron Brothers (owned by Michael's) has the same bargain. I use a lot of the Bristol because it's also my go to paper for die cuts that I want to color.
just an fyi, Strathmore Bristol comes as smooth and vellum. I think the vellum is the one you want for colored pencils, someone please correct me if I am wrong.
Thanks Dina for clearing that up for me and sending the web link. Next week I'm going to town and will check out first Hobby Lobby paper and see what has been recommended and then decide if I need to order something online instead. Through all this and looking at many video's I've gotten a better understand about my prism pencils and why they get a whitish haze then I keep coloring. Thanks again to everyone for your help.Linda Bethe
