Heard that Judikins is no longer making Eclipse tape which was the most wonderful product for masking and brayering. Has anyone tried out the new Post-it Labels that are being advertised? I'm assuming that these labels have the sticky substance on the entire surface rather than a strip on one edge.
I would love to hear comments before I go out and purchase.
Thanks,
Carrie

Grafix Low Tac Frisket Film is even better than Eclipse tape! I've used it for years and have never had a problem. I've got masks that are years old and still usuable. Here's the page at the Grafix site describing it (Frisket Film - Low Tack & Extra Tack: Grafix). You'll love it...

Can we buy this in the store or is there an online store that we can get this at? I would really love to get some.

Hobby Lobby stocks several Grafix products...not sure, but I think they stock Prepared Frisket Film. The Grafix site (Grafix Creative Plastic Films: Grafix) has a store locator that lists both brick and mortar stores and online vendors. Click the Where To Buy link at the top menu.
I've used a wide variety of Grafix products over the years, and every one of those products has been exceptional. It's a delight knowing a product will always do what the company says it will.

Thank you for the information. They carry the product at Micheal's and I am going to the city this weekend so I will see if they have any in stock.
I have used the new post-its with great results. They have adhesive over the entire surface and a small tab on the side to lift it off the paper. Very reasonable as well
Thank you for the responses. I had no idea that there might be another product out there. I'll probably give the 3M post-it label a try anyway. Got a coupon this weekend for Staples.
What about Vinyl transfer tape? You can get it in the 12x24" sheets - it's like a huge sheet of masking tape. And it's only $1.99 a sheet at Expressions Vinyl.

The vinyl transfer tape is listed as being high-tack, whereas masking / frisket film is low-tack. Have you actually tried using the vinyl transfer tape as a masking material? The price is right, but I would be afraid it might stick too well and lift a little of the paper surface when removed. Let us know!
Frisket is a great idea, it was totally designed for masking in the drafting profession! I used to use it all the time! Hadn't thought about it for years since india ink and rapidiographs are hardly used anymore since the advent of CAD and computer graphics, LOL!!! And if you can buy it off the shelf at Hobby Lobby or Michaels and other art supply stores, that is a big plus. Just be sure you get the Low-Tack version!
You know I never really liked my Eclipse Tape because of it being rolled up! Seemed to be wasting to unroll it for a small image. I have most of it sitting in my draw.
HOWEVER, I do have some of the Inkadinkadoo Masking Paper and that works great - same basic stuff only flat so you can stamp and cut out what you need! LOVE it!! I got mine here: Masking Paper at Kitchen Sink Stamps, Inc.
Remember Masking Magic by Therm O Web? It reminded me of clear Contact paper so I tried mine & it works quite well for masking since it's easily removable. If you prefer a solid mask, I would think white Contact paper, if it is removable as the clear is, would perform just like Eclipse Tape. A much cheaper & more readily available alternative.

Masking Magic is Therm O Web's Iron On vinyl in a different package...I know cause I'm the one who suggested it to Therm O Web, wrote the copy for the packaging, and did all the testing. Unfortunately TOW is not exactly the most honorable company, so when Masking Magic was introduced at HIA (now CHA), I was not given any credit. It's no surprise that I wouldn't use any TOW products, even if they paid me to!
After TOW's shabby treatment, I went in search of another masking supply and discovered Grafix Lo Tac Frisket Film. It's a much better product, and is the only masking suppply I use now.
The problem with Frisket is that it is somewhat delicate and on an intricately shaped mask it needs careful handling to avoid tearing. I used it for years in drafting work. If I go to the trouble to make a mask, it is usually something I am going to subject to significant use.
Tim Holtz Mask Sheets are my favorite. They are the same rugged material as his precut masks, they are very resistant to ripping and tearing even on intricate shapes, and they come on a durable carrier sheet. If they lose their tackiness, you could probably wash them clean and let them air dry to regain the tackiness. The other thing I love is they are crystal clear so you can see your artwork to see the contrast with what you are doing in the background.
They come two to a pack. They are somewhat pricey but you can catch them when they are 30-40% off at Joann.com. If they are not on sale there, Creative Play Stamps offers them at a discount price all the time and they have fabulous customer service!
I have been reading a watercolor how to book that mentioned Frisket and did know what it was until I read this thread. Thanks for the info. :-P
Both Post It and Avery now make sticky pads that adhere all over instead of just one end and they come in various sizes. I have both and prefere the PI as the sticky seems to last longer but both work better IMO than Eclipse.
I have purchased both the large roll and the smaller multi-size rolls of Eclipse and none of it stuck worth a darn. Not even for one use, let alone multi use. I have even exchanged it and it is still does not work. It sits in the back of my closet unused, what a waste of $$.
You know I never really liked my Eclipse Tape because of it being rolled up! Seemed to be wasting to unroll it for a small image.
I cut some off & stick it onto text weight paper. It's much easier to cut around an image this way. Otherwise you take away some of its sticky as you handle it while cutting. I keep scraps in an envelope to use for small/tiny masks.
I realize I'm replying to this more than a year later but Judikins Eclipse masking tape is still available at Simon Says Stamp. I mask a lot in my card making and I love it! Simon Says STAMP Product List

I know it was discontinued a couple of years ago but I heard that Judikins was looking for another manufacturer so it may have come back.
I bought my large roll of Eclipse Tape at a stamp show several years ago from Stampland. Darlene, the owner, always demo'ed it with Marvy inks & color dusters so I checked their website. It's listed there so some may be available. Eclipse Tape
Also see that Frantic Fran shows 6 in stock on her website, at a better price, too.
Great information! Thanks for sharing. I have found that Post-It Notes work really well, too, as long as you include the section that has the sticky part.
