Default Nestabilities---"Dirty" Edges?

I'm wondering if anyone has had this problem? When I use my dies, they leave a "dirty" residue on the cutting line. I can usually get most of it off if I rub my glue eraser over it. The die itself does not look dirty, and I've tried wiping it off before use. Anybody know anything about this? It's so frustrating!

Thanks,
Angela

Good thread and question. I've noticed this also. I'm interested whether others have noticed this as well, and what is causing it.

A friend of mine is having a problem with one of her circle sets with the copper flaking off the cutting edge onto her cut image and NOT coming off her paper. She was going to contact Spellbinders about this...I haven't heard anything about it yet from her.

I have had some of the copper peel off when removing the dies from the packaging---this is on the back side and does not affect the cutting, but it looks bad...

I'm eager to hear from others---we can't be the only ones that this has happened to! I would like to know if anyone knows how to prevent this?!

I have several sets of nesties and the last set I bought the copper seems to adhere to the edges. I hate it. It does look dirty!

I have had this happen with my nesties (the dirty edges). I just use my sanding block and lightly buff off the dirty marks. I have no idea why the nesties do this, but the sanding block works great to get the marks off! HTH!

I don't own this product, but would definitely bring it to the company's attention to let them know what is going on.. maybe they might have a suggestion on why it is happening and how to fix it. Pam

I'd be curious too because I get the dirty edges with these are well. It doesn't happen all the time but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme of reason as to why it happens.

That's probably a good idea. They are spendy, but worth the money to me as they really make layering a snap. However, we shouldn't have to waste our valuable crafting time erasing or sanding the dirty edges! KWIM?!

count me in as another nestie user with the same problem. at first i thought my works space was dusty, then my hands were dirty. but those were not the answers and i am wondering what the deal is and how to stop it.

This has happened to me also, but I thought it was because I was running it thru my red Sizzix...the white plate that I cut on gets "cut marks" on it and if I cut black paper you can see where the black is. I just assumed this was the reason. I tend to do what someone else mentioned, just sort of lightly sand it off. I would be curious what kind of machines you all use though...are you using the Wizard and it still does it?

I have noticed this as well! If anyone contacts Spellbinders, please post here so we all know what they have to say. I was hoping it would go away after several uses.

This is happening to me too! It looks like the copper coating is leaving a residue of some sort on the paper it cuts. ARGH! And it does look dirty as well...definitely not getting that nice, clean, crisp look.

I have used my Nesties for about a month now ... yesterday was the first time that one left a mark on my paper. It came off quite easily, but it really should NOT happen!

I don't have any Nesties but Ellen Hutson helped design them. She might be able to help. She is an SCS member. Her company isn't a member company.
Her store: www.ellenhutson.com
Here is a quote taken from her front page:
" We also carry the complete line of Spellbinders Nestabilities. It has been such a pleasure to be involved in the development of these dies and we are proud to offer them to you. "

Does this NOT happen if you use them with the Cuttlebug?

I've been thinking of getting some to use with my Cuttlebug....

I happens to me too. But not every time. The first time, I just thought it was because the dies were new and that it would stop after a couple of uses. Nope, wrong answer. Then I was thinking that it might be the different kinds of paper. But I haven't done a "scientific" test.

BTW I also use a Cuttlebug.

subscribing. I just bought some rectangle nesties for my cuttlebug and I want to know what to do. Are they all made in the same place? Or do they come from different companies? I know they are popular, but has this been a problem all along? Does anyone know?

I have 3 sets of the Nesties and have never had a problem with them. I use them in my CB. I would definately contact Spellbinders if you are having problems with them. They are not cheap tools and they should replace them if you continue to have problems.
It may be some sort of problem with a certain batch of them when they were manufactured.

Hey, all!

I just received a prompt reply from Beth, at Ellen Hutson's store.

Shoot, I tried to copy and paste, but it didn't work.

She said they had not heard of the problem, would check out this thread and post updates as they get information.

Thank you so much for bringing this to Spellbinders attention!!

We are looking into the situation and will begin testing dies immediately. For now, we suggest you wash off any residue that could be on your dies with a mild soap (dish soap in water) to see if that helps. As soon as we have information for you, we'll post to this thread.

I definitely have this problem with my nesties. And now I also have the copper coating flaking off too. I'm really hoping that the metal underneath won't start rusting as I'm in a very high humidity area and everything metal seems to rust. I really don't want to have to replace them!!

I hope not either! I don't live in a high humidity area, but on some of my dies the copper coating came off when I took them out of the packaging. I love them and would hate for them not to be usable!

Okay - in my daytime job, I'm involved in testing...so my curious mind wants to know - what kind of cardstock/paper are you using when these marks occur?

Is it SU? Or another brand? OR does the paper/cardstock type not seem to matter?

Just wondering...

Wow and I thought I was the only one it was happening too. So glad I saw this thread.

I will say that I think I notice it most with circles. Not sure if it is with the other shapes but definitely when I use my circles.

It doesn't seem to matter from what I can tell, it is just way more noticeable on light or white cardstock.

Subscribing. My dies have started to flake. And like the poster that mentioned humidity, I'm also concerned about corrosion.

I have only had the Classic Rectangles (small) until recently and just thought I was doing something wrong. LOL
I now have scalloped squares and rectangles and they are both giving me dirty edges, after just a couple uses each. I have used Stampin' Up cardstock, Georgia Pacific from WalMart, and Papertrey cardstock...it happens with all of them.
