I haven't used the MFT, but I have used a colorbox ink stamp. A lovely blue.
That stained my clear stamps something awful.
Now, typically that doesn't bother me much. But I couldn't really stand the thought of some blue stamps, some red stamps, some green stamps, some brown stamps... and my memento inks don't stain like that. I tried every cleaning solvent in the house, but still blue.
Yes, I have MFT Red Hot (perfect red), Factory Green (light Olive) Brick red, and others. They have been made by ColorBox.
MFT is currently having a big sale for short time. Closing out those made by ColorBox, but I emailed to them to ask if New brand refills will work on my ColorBox pads. YES.
VERY good coverage on solid clear stamps, and all others. I plan to buy some more.
I hate when I learn that a company is clearing out ink pad colors. Some days I think I might as well break down and buy into the ever-changing Stampin' Up pads.
I wish there was one company with really good dye ink that offered a wide range of shades and refills that they continued to make year after year. If I had to pick on big craft gripe (other than the cost of craft supplies) this constantly changing ink colors would be it.
I have several brands. SU and Papertrey Ink are the ones I like best for dye ink. SU has the largest color palette, but Papertrey's palette is the most interesting IMHO.
I think it's unrealistic to expect to keep photopolymers clean and unstained unless you don't use them. (And you can really forget it if, like me, you use them with chalk inks.) Any dye ink in the pink or red range is going to stain them for sure. Mine are almost all variously stained and it doesn't bother me.
I suspect we have all been fooled into thinking there's some way to keep them completely clear and pristine by watching demo videos where the demonstrator was actually using new stamps for the sake of it looking pretty on camera. ;)!

Exactly! I used to wonder how Martha Stewart kept her baking tools, pans and trays so clean. Duh! Same thing. They have so much that they're often opening new packages to use when filming.
I have to remind myself that I am not a collector and not interested in resale but using these items to create art. Art is messy! "Well loved" is something I repeat to myself often
Another Papertrey Ink fan here, no retired colors, but they've added 3 gorgeous colors the past 3 releases. What I also love is that I can buy an ink cube and the reinker for $6.00.
Also a Memento ink fan for use with my Copics. Love some of their inks for no-line coloring.

Melissa59, I think I wasn't clear in my post for MFT inks. They are NOT retiring colors, they are changing the company who makes them. They have added some new colors within the past year, but I don't think the coordinating inks are dye.
PTI's card stock is also terrific. Very nice heavy weight and the same gorgeous colors as the inks.

Maybe I'll give PTI a try. I like that I can get the little cubes and a reinker for the price of most larger pads. I remember back when they had a big problem with their inks. I think they grew mold or something but from what I've read that is not a problem anymore.
The problem I have with the cardstock, most cardstock, is that it is letter size. That's fine for my cards but I'm also a scrapbooker. That's won't be a problem for me any time soon. I have enough 12x12 paper & cardstock to last me a couple years.
Melissa, I've used PTI inks for quite a while and never heard of any mold. In some colors, the coverage was splotchy. But they have since reformulated their dye inks, and I love them. And if you need a good white pigment ink, nothing beats their Fresh Snow.
No-line coloring: I use this technique mostly with flowers, so whatever color I want the finished flower to be, I will use Memento dye ink in a lighter shade to stamp. BTW, the original 24 Memento colors can't be beat, but the 12 new colors they added a couple of years ago do not give good images - too splotchy. I'm referring to the dye inks. The pigment inks, Memento Luxe, are luscious and a dream to work with.
London Fog and Desert Sand are also good colors to use with no-line coloring.

I have most of the SU inks, and some PTI. When I was starting my "ink collection" they were having some ink manufacturer issues, which I'm sure are lined out by now. I love the PTI stamps. They are all clear, but very good quality. Several layering sets if you like that. I love the layering florals, bike, end. I like their paper too. Good prices on their stuff. Never been a fan of Colorbox inks though.
I know the thread is a bit old, but I came across it while trying to find some info on the new MFT ink pads. I really liked the spongy, old style Colorbox MFT dye inks. I just tried the new style and was really disappointed. The pad style is cloth, kind of like their hybrid line. Mine was NOT juicy and results were not as nice IMO as with the old pads. I guess these are similar to what some of the other manufacturers use and maybe others like them, but I prefer the old ones a lot more. Just wanted to note it in case someone else was expecting the new MFT ink pads to be similar to Colorbox.
Thanks for the update, Olga.
I sure wouldn't want non-juicy ink pads that were new, but I might like the cloth as I've never been fond of the sponge on my pigment inks.
I'm no longer on the hunt for stamp pads. A friend who quit papercrafting gave me her Stampin Up stamp pad collection in exchange for me staying at her house for 10 days and caring for her four dogs and three cats. Tough job! I had to snuggle furry critters!
Hanging out with pets and getting craft supplies in return sounds like a great gig!!
For anyone else looking into ink pads, I just wanted to add that I really like most of MFT products and buy from them a lot so I hope my post wasn't too negative. I personally wasn't happy with the change they made, but I only bought one new ink pad so while the style definitely changed it's possible that I just happened to get one that wasn't as good. I was searching the forum to see if anyone else had similar experience.
Evidently you've gotten enough inks to keep you busy for a while, but just in case you start looking again...
I love MFT as a company. Their dies and stamps are great (although I personally cannot stand the big-headed child series of stamps). Their cardstock is very nice, although also very expensive (only buy at a 25 or 30% off sale). I bought one dye and one hybrid ink pad, and didn't like either one. For me, both were splotchy, and didn't get any better with time as the Hero Arts Shadow inks do.
Being sort of a "completist", I own full sets of PTI, TH Distress, Memento Dye and Luxe, Hero Arts Shadow, and SU up till about 5 or 6 years ago. Most used is PTI, hands down. For some larger solid images, the Memento Luxe is gorgeous.
My favorite dye inks have long been Close to My Heart. I quit using CTMH paper awhile back. If I start looking for matching ink and paper again, I'll probably give Papertrey Ink a try. I've heard good things about the ink and love that I can get a cube and refill for $6. Not a bad little investment if I decide the color and ink is not for me.
