Boy, I sure hope I dont get "shot" for asking this question....but why the big hype over the Big Shot? How much better is it than the cuttlebug? Can you use the "exclusive" stampin up dies with the cutlebug?
TIA
I've owned the Big Shot for a while and it will work with any dies. I also own the Cuttlebug (not sure why I bought it?) because my Big Shot will do it all! The Big Shot will also cut chipboard, material, etc. I don't think you can use the big, thick Sizzix dies in the Cuttlebug.
I do not have the big shot, I don't because I have the cuttlebug and haven't had any problems with it. I use it with every die and embossing folder, you just have to make the sandwich right.

The Big Shot seems to be more versatile and more heavy weight. I have the Cuttlebug and love it, but have just ordered the Big Shot thru SU. With the Big Shot I can cut thru 5 sheets of card stock at once, it can be used on any surface (whereas the Cuttlebug has to be used on a flat smooth surface to adhere). I like that with the Big Shot that I will be able to use the larger dies. The Big Shot can be used left or right handed, dies can be put in from either side ... don't think this is possible with the Cuttlebug. The Big Shot comes with a block that makes it versatile for all die cuts, with the Cuttlebug I have to rig things to get it to work with other dies.
Visit Rebecca Grohall's blog for a comparison of the two machines. She is doing an ongoing comparison with different materials on the blog, so keep checking back.
I love my CB and have used the new SU dies in it. You can use it left or right handed... just turn it around so the handle is on the correct side for you. I will not be getting the Big Shot unless my CB bites the dust. Even then, I may still invest in another CB. I've cut felt and foam in my CB too... never had the want or desire to cut anything thicker. What can I say... I'm a CB lover!
I'm subscribing to this thread cuz I'm very curious about this. I have a CB and love it - but would like to hear more opinions about the BigShot and using the SU dies in the CB.
I have the big shot and love it. They have now come out with a big shot that works with the press of a button for those who may have issues turning the crank. They have also come out with a new 12 inch platform to cut the long border dies with.
Ditto Ditto Ditto about the Big Shot/Big Kick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The only thing the Cuttlebug has over the Big Shot is the cute factor and smaller footprint. The Big Shot is a much sturdier, hassle-free machine that takes ALL dies WITHOUT shims, workarounds, etc. Most BS's come with the universal pad that allows you to use all the dies/embossing folders, etc. and which has the instructions for each die RIGHT ON THE PAD. I love it. I have the original blue Big Shot, but if cute is important to you, then go for the new pink and black version that's out now. Unless you are extremely tight on space (and the BS isn't *that* big to begin with), I think the Big Shot or Big Kick is absolutely the better machine.
I think the hype is due to the new SU dies and the fact that they are selling the Big Shot now. My understanding is that most of the SU dies will work in both machines, but I think the really big ones are too big for the Cuttlebug (width-wise).
On a slightly different note, a crafter once said to me (she had both machines) that she liked the Big Shot/Kick better because is was better balanced and weighted, thus easier to use. That made sense to me, which is why I am personally leaning towards getting the Big Shot, although still using my good ol' original red sizzix machine (and managing quite nicely!). :-)

I brought both and then returned the cuttlebug. It just wasn't has strudy as the big shot/big kick. This one does everything and I couldn't be happier.

eBay may soon be flooded with Cuttlebugs for sale!;-)
