Question Covering Stampin Up Bigz Dies With Drywall Tape

Why have some people Covered Bigz Dies With Drywall Tape.
What is the purpose and function in doing this.
Any insight would be grateful!
Thanks!

I think it is to make them "thicker" instead of using a shim?

Mary, do you have a link where you saw this done? I haven't heard of it either!

I haven't seen it with drywall tape but I have seen it with label paper - so you cover the die with tape or sticky paper and run it through the machine. Then peel away the shape. Now you can see exactly where it's going to cut, and you can use that for alignment purposes.
