Default Would you do this?

I have the bright pink big shot but want to sell it for a cuttlebug. I think the cuttlebug would be easier to pull out when I need to use it, and besides that its just cute. Are there any advantages to keep the BS over the CB?

Thanks,

Michelle

I personally got the bigshot for its stability and cause it could do the bigz dies

Definitely, in my opinion, there are advantages to keeping your BS. Yet, it all comes down to what you do with your BS.
Do you use bigz dies? If you do, you can't really use a CB for these. I can cut with materials like chipboard and fabric. I do love my BS. The BS is heavier and more stable too.

FYI---I do have both machines, and can't imagine crafting without both. I use the CB for my nesties and embossing.

Good luck with your decision. Personally, I've never regretted having both machines. Yet, you are right the CB is more portable.

I would much rather have a Big Shot than my Cuttlebug. The Big Shot applies more pressure and doesn't seem to need shims like the Cuttlebug. Also I think the cutting surface is wider on the BS as well as it seems to be more of a workhorse (I believe it will cut more materials). It is also far more stable - I'm not crazy about my wiggly Cuttlebug (the suction doesn't work on any of my surfaces).

I'm not a CB fan for the stability and durability issues. I have a BS as well as the old red Sizzix. I prefer "old red" to the big shot...really! Talk about stability! It's just that he doesn't do bigz or texture plates.

I'd say stick with the Big Shot!

I DID do this. Although I have gone without anything for quite some time. I sold my big shot because of space issues, and my cuttlebug is finally being delivered today! Here's a good comparison video:

You CAN use texture plates in your cuttlebug. Here:

I was looking at the CB at ACM yesterday to see what type of space a person would really save....it didn't appear to be enough to justify getting rid of the BS. (I wouldn't anyway. I love my BS). I just didn't see where it would save too much space.

I wouldn't switch from a Big Shot to a CB, no. They are cute, but they are also not as sturdy as the Big Shot - and the pink/black BS you have is rather adorable too. How tight are you on space? That is the only reason I can think of to switch, and you really don't save that much space in reality.

I have used both and love my cuttlebug more than the big shot. I have no shim problems and no pressure problem like I have had with the big shot. And, it is MUCH easier to store. I have run over 3,000 things through my cuttlebug in the last year...weird how busy you get sometimes!

I had the Cuttlebug. I just got the beautiful Pink & Black BigShot. I love it so much. I do a lot of mixed media work so I use a lot of heavier materials. The BS can't be beat for heavier materials.

I miss my CB. I gave it to my Mom who is not using it. I am thinking of getting it back, lol. It is easier to use for quick projects. I think it's because I have the recipes memorized.

Definitely the BS is better for durability. You don't have to constantly suction it down. I love that. I love the mobility of the Cuttlebug.

I have the CB & love it! I bought the 12" plates...ALL of them A, B, & C plates & YES you can use the Bigz dies with it using these longer plates. I have 2 Bigz dies that I use with it all the time. I imagine the wider dies I will not be able to use but how many of those are there? If I were you I would keep the big shot & also buy cuttlebug, you will NOT be sorry. I wish I had both...maybe someday I will! Good luck & have fun!

I also have the Extra long Bigz die that I use & it fits nicely in my CB (thats the reason I bought the 12" plates). I need to buy more of those dies, I love them. I'm looking to get the movers & shapers die next.

Maybe you don't have a small enough space to understand then? Not being able to fold up the big shot made all the difference. It couldn't sit on my table all the time, and the only other place in my room it would fit was on top of an armoire. But the Cuttlebug, I can fold it up and set it on my shelves above my workspace. It folds up so small, and it fits there perfectly.
So far I'm loving my new cuttlebug!

I have the orginal Bigshot and the old red sizzix as well. Since I got my Cuttlebug...New Style one BTW...Love it...I have only used my Bigshot once or twice. If you go to Crops or Retreats a lot...the CB will be much easier to carry along. I have loads of Nesties and loads of Tim BigZ dies as well as a lot of the other orginal Sizzix dies. I have not had any problems with the CB taking any kind of die I have wanted to use in it. I really think it is all a matter of style and preference, space and what you have or plan to invest in. Santa got me the Grand Calibur and I am paying on a Vagabond now. I am a tool freak so to speak...Hee...Hee...so I would say...Keep the BigShot...Get the Cuttlebug...see which one you will use the most...then decide to sell or not to sell. Just my humble opinion. Be blessed!!!

Ditto on the Big Shot... it's more sturdy. Even though it does take space, I still prefer it. I bought mine when it first came out, and it's still mighty as ever

I agree with everyone else.... I have both a BS and a CB and I use only the BS anymore... it's more sturdy.

All my stuff's in a corner in my living room, so I understand the space issue. Does the CB fold up? I really didn't take that good a look at it, so if it folds up, I would understand it taking less space. The Big Shot is only about 14 inches long by 9 wide (although the handle makes it about 12.) Mine sits on a tabletop in the corner. I would love more space, but it just isn't happening!

If anyone wants to trade their Big Shot for my Cuttlebug, I'm here to help you out. I have one small, green bug waiting to be used in a small space. Looking to adopt a Big Shot! Have large crafting yard (oops, room) for it to roam. :-).

This was such a cute post, it made me smile :^) !!!

I can't imagine going from BS to CB. I went the opposite way and LOVED the BS so much more. Just more sturdy and more fun to use. I felt like I was always struggling with the CB -- too tipsy. I often had no choice but to use it on the floor (no space) and on a hardwood floor the "feet" wouldn't grab.

Now I have the Vagabond  LOVE IT!

Me too. I would even throw in an alphabet and some dies. I would love a big shot, but I don't want to spend the $$ when I already have the cuttlebug and a cricut.

FTR, Provo Craft released extended cutting plates for the CB last summer, so using the CB to cut Sizzix BigzXL dies no longer requires fiddling with jury-rigged cutting plates.

The BigzXL dies have always fit through a CB, but the Sizzix cutting plates were a tad too wide and required sanding or trimming. Some people butt 2 CB B plates end-to-end as a work-around. None of that is necessary now.

The CB accommodates every die/embossing folder/embossing plate the BS/BK can handle. That said, I prefer a Big Kick, even over the Big Shot.
