I'm headin' to Lowe's!! Not only do I have a few texture plates, but I have those Fashion Plates rubbing plates from my childhood and also the Bratz fashion plates. Oh, how cool would it be to make sassy cards with the Bratz embossed on the front!!!
I got my 'bug through http://www.happyscrappinscrapbooking.com/. Their prices were a lot less than Mike's, and at the time I got my 'bug, it was $59.95 versus the list of $79.95. Their embossing folders and dies are also less than Mike's, and their shipping is FAST! Plus, they give you "bucks" - for every $25 you spend, you can get $1 off your next order (or something like that.)
When I was bit by the 'bug bug, I searched online and picked the cheapest one at that time. JKCrafts is another one, but they were a bit more. Still less than Mike's, though. I got some embossing folders from there to satisfy my must-have itch.
I have purchased more must-have's from happyscrappingscrapbooking (say THAT fast 3 times!), and I love them.
I am sure there are a lot of other suggestions in the CB threads and the CB FAQ thread.
How much is a cuttlebug? You can only do standard card sizes with the embossing folders though, right? I don't know...that just doesn't seem worth it to me because then it can't be used for scrapbooking...can you convince me otherwise?;)
DOH! My last post was in response to this one. (Thanks for the compliment, BTW!)
And it is true, the 'bug is for smaller items, like A2 cards. You could use it to embellish for scrapbooking, though!
This may be a stupid question, but does anyone know if something like a computer mousepad would work, is it the right thickness or right type of rubber? Just came from Menards and none of the guys had ever heard of shower pan liner or plumbers gasket! Haven't tried Lowe's yet.

just go to Lowes, trust me! Go straight to the plumbing dept and find somebody to help you and you will be taken care of right there... unless you get some idiot worker, that would be different story lol

I got my rubber gasket at Menards. It was in the plumbing repair dept and in a package hanging on a hook, already cut into sheets. I dont remember the brand name.
My husband has been hunting the "Shower Pan Liner and plumbing gasket at both Home Depot and Lowes and he can't find anyone who knows what either of these products are. Is there another name for this product? Any help will be GREATLY appreciated because i have tons of fiskars embossing plates i can use with my cuttlebug. Thanks so much

I bought a foot yesterday and have tons left over. PM me your address and I'll put a piece in today's mail for you.
I was thrilled to have this work for me too! I found Plumber's Gasket at Home Depot (Canada) for about $8. It had several pieces/thicknesses already cut, hanging in a package on a hook. Only took asking 2 employees to find it!
I found it works great when you mist the cardstock. Also helps with the brass templates! I used a thicker piece of gasket for that kind. Then I made labels with my labelmaker to spell out the "sandwich recipe" so I don't have to refer to a chart each time I want to use it!
You guys are such a great resource here. Next on my wish list - Bind-It-All!
I am excited too. I just used my fiskars texture plate in my cuttlebug. I used the new sizzix "Texturizz Starter Kit". It comes with 6 designs (3-plates with a design on each side just like fiskars), one sheet of silicone rubber and 1 impressions pad. Use cuttlebug "A" plate, texture plate, paper, silcone rubber and top it off with the impressions pad. Worked great. I got the starter set at AC Moore with a 50% off coupon. Off to make some samples

I'm glad for this thread. At first I am nodding in agreement with TruCarMa...yes I have the Cricut...no I'm not using it too much, but I went ahead and got the Cuttlebug despite the guilt and I am really using it. The results are fabulous for me. Then I thought since this is so fabulous maybe I need the Bind-it-All. Does anyone else have this sickness? BTW the bind it all should come next week. I already have the wires and the coasters.

I finally found it! I went to another Menards and the first guy we asked walked right to it(of course he was an older man who talked my husbands language!) DH has an on line heating & air supply house so he knew what I was looking for but the young ones at Menards didn't. He asked for a product called Rubatex gasket material, the guy said they didn't have that brand but he knew what we needed. It is in the plumbing repair section hanging on a hook with replacement parts for sinks, faucets, etc. The package says Repair Parts in bold letters and Gasket Rubber in smaller print. There are 2 sheets of 6 x 6 rubber for $2.29. The brand name is Danco and a part No. is 59849. We would have bought more but there was no more to get. Hope this helps!

good for you! Now go and have fun and show off your creations!
i've heard this breaks cuttlebugs??? DH bought me fiskars plates (still need shower pan liner or plumbers gasket) and now i'm scared!
I'm hearing that too. After I bought my plumbers gasket at Menards I finally tried it yesterday and it just felt too too tight to go through the bug so I stopped trying. My rubber is just too thick, some ladies say there are different thicknesses. I'll think I'll be on a search for something thinner! Good luck with yours!
When I went to get my plumbers gasket, Lowes has two thicknesses. I bought both as I wasn't sure which I needed (and together they were less than $2!) The thinner one is what I use. I did try the thicker one and it seemed too thick, so I stopped. There were no labels, just a scan type sticker on each piece that had only the UPC code on it, so I can't give any further info, sorry!

Ditto to this! I ended up using the thicker gasket with the B plate and it is not too thick. See my earlier post for the sandwich I used.
I bought the 2 rubber pads at Lowe's also - less then $2 for both. After experimenting, I ended up using the thicker pad - My recipe is "A" , fisker plate, paper, rubber, "B".
I don't believe it was called a gasket though, I walked up and down and around Lowe's plumbing and finally found it among the plumbing supplies.
Do you know how Lowe's has the plumbing supplies all in boxes on the shelves. It was just in a box. I'm sorry I don't remember what else was on the shelf with it.
Was it hanging on a hook, in plastic??? Any clues will help, I think the boys at the hardware stores are starting to think I'm stalking them!
It's often referred to as "plumber's gasket", and at Ace Hardware, I find it in the plumbing section, in loose stacks, 2 different thicknesses in each stack. Not boxed or anything.
