Ahhh yes, the many uses of wax paper....what a fun thread!! And while my favorite use was always on the playground slide (the old, steel kind) today's primary use of wax paper is to rub over cardstock before dry embossing to help the stylus glide smoothly. Oh, and also for lubricating (?) punches as mentioned, and for repositioning or trimming a wood-mounted rubber stamp (I nuke the wooden stamp a few seconds to loosen the adhesive, peel the rubber off the wood and place it temporarily on a piece of wax paper, trim (or whatever), then reposition it on the wood block). And I'm so glad to hear it's still available at the supermarket since I can't remember the last time I bought mine, lol!

Okay, way back on page one of this thread, there was a discussion about whether it was called wax paper, or waxed paper. Well, I always thought it was "waxed", but an earlier poster checked her box, and said it was actually "wax". Well, I was sure I was right, so I checked my box, and it says "waxed" paper. And it's not Cut-rite either-- it's a store brand from Sobeys (here in Canada).

Just thought I'd put my 2 bits in!

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

My mom used to wrap dimes and nickels in it and then put the money in our birthday cakes.

I always thought it was waxed paper not wax paper. Maybe it's another U.S. different from Canada thing (like color and colour).

Well, I've only read one page of replies here. I don't remember my mom ever wrapping my sandwiches in wax paper, but I certainly remember Cut-Rite! In fact, I use it all the time in the microwave. It is the perfect thing to put over a bowl to keep it from splattering, but not seal it tight.
I, too, remember both the leaves and the crayon shavings between two sheets of wax paper.

All three rolls of our wax paper were bought in Canada; I will have to unbury and check the other two rolls later and see if they all say different things.

This thread is cracking me up, ladies.

Only deranged stampers could go on and on for 3 pages about waxed/wax paper.

Funny thing I found this. I just had a group of gals from SCS's and we were discussing mirrored images on cards. One said that you can in some way stamp an image on wax paper and then onto the card stock to get a mirrored image. Is anyone familiar with this technique? I am going to check showmestampers technique challenge to see if she has done that one.

I was looking for wax paper sandwich bags and apparently they stopped making them, cause I can't find them --- those were perfect for peanut butter and fluff sandwiches and now that my DD is asking for those for lunches do you think I could find those bags??? I end up using twice the amount of wax paper to wrap that baby. !!

Ok, maybe you are on to something, I can't find this stuff here anywhere, it drives me nuts.

Well, I havent looked recently, but when I ran out of it awhile back, from a box I had from when I lived up north, I couldn't find it. I use to use it all the time, especially in the microwave, but now I just use saran wrap.

Sorry, I posted to this, I just thought it was funny.

We have Kroger. I KNOW I didn't look there, I looked at Walmart, we used to shop there all the time, but now only Kroger, I will check next time I am there. Though, like I said, I havent had it in months, if not a full year, and I have survived with out this long....

Oh, I do know where it was suppose to be, it just wasn't there. ;)

check out post #527 of the Favorite Tips thread here on how to do it. I loved this idea! Haven't done it yet but thought I would help you out...especially since the PMS'ing and all

PS I use wax paper for lining my baking pans and no adverse taste or result yet

I like to use wax paper to place my no-bake cookies on to cool. They are made with cocoa and peanut butter. Yum.

I also forgot about Saniflush. It got the toilets very clean! Now I use the liquid that you spray around. I am going to look for Saniflush the next time I am in the store.

I'm only 23 and I know what wax paper is! I also did the leaves & crayon art in school (and at home- much to my mother's dismay!)
My mom used wax paper before parchment became so popular (and readily avaliable) for baking. It never had a bad taste or melted or what not. I still use it in the oven and it works fine.

Just to add.....I have Waxtex. On the box is printed "waxed paper for your microwave and baking needs". Purchased from my local grocery store - Pick 'n Save.

I'd LOVE to find some of those waxed bags.

Hee hee....too funny....all this talk about waxed paper!

You can substitute marshmallows. The miniature ones work better.

I even did an Easter version of this. A Peep bunny is the perfect size for half a sandwich.

Default Wax Paper in the Oven

If you put wax paper in the oven it can "smoke" a little.

This has been fun, ladies! I use parchment paper for baking, and waxed paper for 1) preparing for dry embossing 2) wrapping hamburgers after I've formed them to sit in the frig until cooking later in the day and 3) in place of plastic wrap whenever possible, even covering dishes and then securing with a rubber band when storing in the frig. I just retired from teaching kindergarten and waxed paper is still alive and well in a multitude of art projects!

ROTFL!!!!! Let me move my walker out of the way. Yup, my sandwiches were wrapped in waxed paper too. But even though ziplock sandwich bags have taken over the drawer I still use waxed paper for my microwave and candy making. That is if I can find the box because it is usually in the stamp room!

You'll have to try it w/marshmallows. Fluff is AWESOME on ice cream too. One advantage the US has over OZ, you guys have Vegemite (doesn't sound like I'd ever try that) and we have Fluff! If you are vegetarian though, only the original Fluff brand does not have gelatin in it.

WAXED paper! You have hit on a pet peeve of mine- it's also CANNED goods, not can goods!
When you think about it, it means the paper has been waxed, not that wax is made into paper.
....thank you for letting me get that off my chest....I feel better now...

Some of the stores have actually STOPPED selling wax paper! For those of you that talked about sandwiches in wax paper, that brought back some great memories. I also remember not being able to afford a lunch box so my mom would put my lunch in a HUGE Piggly Wiggly Supermarket brown paper bag. TOOOO FUNNY!

Anyway, I found that they sell wax paper at the dollar stores.

Okay - I could only share this here, on this thread, at this time....

So... back in the days before you got a nice polystyrene foam clam shell for your left overs, some times the restaurant would have a special printed bag with their name or a sentiment on it... such as "fido's feast" ...doggy bag - get it?

Do you see where I am going here with this after the last post?

Yes - my very own loving mother packed my lunch in a bag which said FIDO'S FEAST which I then had to carry to school... Therapy has helped!!!!

sorry for the hi-jack - the bag wasn't waxed!

...and the jury is still out as to whether it is wax or waxed! I think if it's part of the brand name... it might truly be "wax" even thought it isn't gramatically correct!

our local grocery store sells the wax paper, I use about a box a month. it's good when you are using a lot of different embossing powders I use it to line my embossing tray. it's easy to scoop & pour back into the container with out cleaning the tray every single time

you should only store with wax paper, it does sweat if things are warm & gives off that waxy smell...

I have found that parchment works wonders in the freezer & then can go directly into the oven. I cook everything from cookies to bacon in the oven with it.

My grandmother uses wax paper on everything. She thinks plastic wrap & baggies has chemicals that can make you sick. So, I keep it in the closet to humor her when she is over
