What's the best sewing machine that you would use for papercrafts?
Hey....I'm thinking that I would love to add stitching to my cards based on all the cool ones I see here. The only problem is that I don't sew and don't own a machine. What is the best one (and cheapest) to just use for cards. Also hopefully small too!
I have heard really good things about the Janome Sew Mini. I have a large Janome machine that has sewn numerous quilts and other things and it works like a charm on paper too.
I have heard to steer clear of those cheapies that M's sells.

I have a Brother's. I got it for Christmas one year and used it twice until I started cards. Now I use it alot (even though I'm a newbie). I saw it at Wal-Mart but not sure how much. Anyways, I really like it alot.
I just ordered a Janome Mini from Hancock Fabrics. It's on sale for $49.99 and there's a 10% off code (MTNSED) that's good through tonight. It only weighs 5 pounds, and the only criticism I've heard about it is that it doesn't have a light like most sewing machines do.
I LOVE my lil Janome. She is super cute and works on cards like a charm!

Do you know if the store has that price as well..or is that just online?
I already had a sewing machine when I started this new hobby, so I've just used that to stitch on cardstock. I've used a medium-sized needle - about the same size you'd use for most mercerized cotton thread - something like a universal 90 14 works fine.
If you also do any sewing on fabric, be careful that you don't use the same needle for fabric as you do for cardstock. Sewing through cardstock will make your needle dull very quickly; you should store it separately and mark the case you store it in so that you will know that it's a cardstock needle. And if you have been using it and start having problems with your thread bunching underneath or breaking, whether you're sewing on fabric or cardstock, change your needle first. A damaged needle is often the cause of sewing problems and is the first thing to change.

Tip regarding needle used for paper.......just mark it with some red nail polish!
I love my Janome and got one of the Hello Kitty models from Target.com. It was over a year ago and they were on sale and had free shipping -- which to Hawaii is a big deal.
Thanks so much! Our local hancock has them on sale, so I handed my husband the list of what and where and made my Birthday shopping easy. I just hope I can figure out how to do it, since I'm not a sewer at all! At worst I can ask my mom or neighbor for a few pointers!!
I went ahead and bought the Hello Kitty from AllBrands.... hard to beat the no sales tax and no shipping... and I do like the cute factor. Was a little miffed that a 5 dollar off coupon I had that expires on the 21st was not accepted. They said it expired at 12:01am this morning. BAER :(
Another option for those of you who like cute is the purple one on QVC... Blossom.
