I usually use cotton balls and q-tipswith my chalks. I've always wanted a set of sponge daubers but either talked myself out of it b/c it wasn't necessary, thought they were only for ink or forgot to order any. Well, I bought some this weekend and decided to use one with my chalks and what a difference! I had to go over the area twice with cotton balls to get the effect I wanted but got it instantly with the daubers. I'm going to buy a set for each color family now. I washed the chalk out of them so it wouldn't interfere when I use ink.

Aren't they great little things? I love using them, too. I really should get more of them but it always seems that something else I want pushes them farther down the list!
I never even thought to use daubers with chalk. Maybe that is why my chalks are sitting unused in my drawer! I LOVE daubers for inks, so now I'll have to try them with my chalks!
I just bought some in January and recently used some for poppin pastels. Love how they work!
But here is my question...do you clean them after each use (after all...they are sponges)? I tried cleaning one, but the pigment from the green galore was still in the sponge. I hope it doesn't rub off. (My sponges for ink get stained as well) I have seen posts where people want to buy one dauber for each color. That seems like overkill to me

I love my daubers! There was a stamp show here a few weeks ago and for $5 I got a clear case that stores a bunhc - I forget how many - maybe 24? So I'm gonna keep a dauber for the ones that I use most often - like Tim Holtz distress black, chocolate chip and for some reason I use the Tempting Turqoise ink and chalk a ton! I wonder if Michaels has them so I can get some with those coupons I never find anything to buy with.
I don't clean mine, I have one for each color of ink. I think they are too difficult to clean, someone here might have a trick though. I love mine too!
i asked myself the same thing after I ordered my first set. They are pretty amazing aren't they? Right now I only have two sets so I have to wash them out. There is some staining of the sponge but it doesn't usually transfer. Something I try to do though is if a sponge is stained to try and use a similar color that way if there is any color transfer it won't really be noticable. If you use them for craft inks for any reason I do not recommend re-using them with other coloring mediums. That craft ink just doesn't like to come all the way out of the sponge and IMO it is way too much work to try.

I have three of those cases and daubers for each color family, as well as some extras for neutrals. I don't clean them because I don't "cross color" with them. They're inexpensive enough to have a large supply.
Does anyone know where to get a larger quantity than 3 or 5? The ones in the craft stores come 3 to a pack, and they're very expensive. I've bought 5-packs at craft shows, but all of the "local" shows that I've been looking forward to have been canceled. :(
I have been using brushes instead of sponge daubers (the brushes look like the old-fashioned shaving brushes) I like the brushes, but sometimes I think that the daubers would be more efficient. Also, the daubers are cheaper to buy. I may have to invest in some.

I appreciate the links to the dauber cases. If I ever get my craft room truly organized (LOL!) I might figure out where I can put some cases. At least in my planning, I know it's something I may want to do...thanks for the input!

I felt the same way. I thought there was no way they could be that big a deal...until I finally decide to buy them. Now I am hooked and will eventually buy more, but like someone earlier said, they keep getting pushed down to the bottom of the list. But they are always on the list!
