a co-worker was at michaels and got a magazine called "making cards in minutes with Sizzix" for a bargain of $1.25 so she picked it up for me cuz she knows I make cards. But for the life of me, I don't know what a sizzix is. is it a machine that cuts out shapes?

:p YES!!! and it rocks!! I would strongly suggest the sidekick, much smaller, cheaper, and portable. The dies are also cheaper and much smaller. I LOVE mine! Have a great time and I will have to look for that magazine!

is the sidekick practical for in-home use? I keep picturing this huge machine in my stamping room.
I truly can't recommend the sidekick over the full sized machine. The full sized one is *not* all that large, and all the dies for the sidekick fit the full sized machine, but the ones for the full sized machine do NOT fit in the sidekick, so you are very limited as to what you can do with the sidekick. The full sized one is only about $25.00 more than the sidekick and you can do a LOT more with it. If you have an ACMoore, they have 40% and 50% off coupons in the paper every week, get it there with the coupon. I love mine, I've had it for years and it gets a LOT of abuse, and it hasn't let me down yet.

On the discussion about Sidekick v. Big Sizzix machine. I'd say get both (If you can afford it). I tried doing without the sidekick and had one heck of a problem getting the Sizzlets to cut right in the big Sizzix. As soon as I got my hands on the Sidekick I had no more problems at all.
That said. You might want to look into the BigShot from Ellison. They're a partner company for Sizzix and the BigShot can take all of the Big and Small Sizzix dies where the Sizzix cannot take all of the BigShot dies.

Now see, I have no problem at all bouncing back and forth between regular sizzix dies, sizzlets (for the sidekick) and embossing folders (also for the sidekick). I do it all the time, in fact I even bought some dies from "Some Assembly Required" and they also go right thru my sizzix with no problem.
As far as Ellison goes, my opinion is that Accucut makes better machines and more dies, but now we're talking professional systems and lotsa money. I DO hope to get an Accucut GrandeMark one day, but for now (and even for then), I use the bejeepers out of my Sizzix and I love it. I wish SU! would come out with a machine for us.
JailBirdStamper,
Or you can go with the Zip'eMate! Even a small ZAZ if you just want a few things. I have the ZM and there are a lot of embelishments you can make with the small die sets. I would think the bigger one would be for more scrapbooking as you have a bigger spread to work with?
The ZM can emboss stencils also! Lots of little goodies for us to spend money on!
HTH

I have a regular size and love it ...that is a book she got for you that usually cost much more...I love all my dies and use them for cards and scrapbooking
but I would go for the big one and get the adapter to use the sizzlets...wait for a 40% off at Mike's ...DD
I just picked up the sizzix machine this week. It was a birthday gift to me. I got the converter, and an alphabet of sizzlits. I got the "bouce" font. It looked nice in the package. I haven't played with it much, but I thought the shadows would look as even as the alphabet. I'm hoping that they will grow on me.
Anyone know where I can purchase more sizzlits sets reasonable. At AC Moore they were $99.90 (regular price $149.99).
I have the full size Sizzix, the Sidekick, multiple fonts and tons of diecuts for both machines. I love them all and couldn't live without them at all. If you can afford to get one (I highly suggest you have a Michaels 40 or 50% off coupon first) I suggest the big one first.
Here is my piece of advice for you. Use them, play with them, experiment. There is so much you can do with them.
Take your card stock and cut it to the size that will fit in your Sizzix, then run it through a Xyron machine (to add the adhesive). Then do the Sizzix. This makes great stickers in the shapes and letters you want (without having to put on adhesive later).
Hobby Lobby in Amarillo has the Sizzix on sale right now (I don't know if it is just my store or everywhere). Another great place to get good deals on the Sizzix stuff is on their website. (WWW.sizzix.com) They have sale items all the time!
Too early to venture out and purchase more fonts. At first, I thought it was going to be too hard to use, but thank goodness for the xyron 150. It has saved me.
Go to http://sizzix.com/specials.cfm?funct...poncode=WM6152 this is for a coupon for 50% off the most expensive item in your order. Sizzix website alway has a sale on something. They run 40% off coupons all the time. Subscribe to the email notification and they will email you with specials, new releases etc. I have ordered new alphabet sets cheaper on their site than used on Ebay.
I was looking for the Sizzix Number Set in the Lollipop font and today it was at AC Moores but it had a regular price of $52.99. I was not about to pay that. I had a coupon that I was using for the Heat Embossing tool. I think I'll wait another week or so to see if they come down in price.
I had a Sizzix machine for quite awhile but sold it to a friend for $30. I then bought the Zip'eMate but then found I couldn't put a 1/2 sheet of cardstock through it. I ended up with the Wizard. This machine is awesome! I can set eyelets, smash bottlecaps, dry emboss with my Lasting Impressions brass stencils, cut with any of the dies currently available by all of the companies, smash flowers... I can cut any type of material.......... metal, paper, cork, etc. (And I can put a 1/2 sheet of cardstock through.)

I have the both the full size machine and the sidekick machines. LOVE THEM both!!! There are so many things to do with the die cuts.
Here are a couple sites to check out. http://www.michaels.com/art/online/d...38&channelid=8
I've also (tried to) attach 2 pictures of a small photo album I created (cased the idea from DIY Scrapbooking show) using some of the box letters. Those are my favorite letters to use. Hope the pictures show up. :???:
