I have decided to sell almost my entire stampin up ink pad collection and the refills. I do not use but a few ink pads anymore because I have switched to PTI's paper and ink pads. My question is if I sell my SU ink pads I would still want to buy a few basic color dye ink pads to replace them. I would love to hear what you use and how you like them. I would of course prefer an ink pad line that is dye based that works well with clear stamps and I can buy refills for them. TIA
My favorite ink is VersaFine. I realize it is technically a pigment ink, but it does dry very quickly and that little bit of wait is worth it to get the outstanding detail that VersaFine shows. Black and brown Versafine pads are available in most Michael's stores. The pad wrappers say the ink lasts longer than most pads and usually doesn't need re-inking, although I believe Tsukineko sells re-inkers. I recently purchased several of the other VersaFine colors by mail, although I cannot remember from whom. One more detail: this ink will not run if you color an image with SU markers, and I assume it would be stable with other water-color markers, also. Check it out here: http://www.tsukineko.com/store/cart....duct_list&c=18

Thank you! I have heard really great things about the versafine ink pads. I will definately check them out.
I have one or two of the Momento's ink pads. I have used them with my red rubber stamps but will try them with my clear stamps and see how I like the results.
Thanks for all the great suggestions. I posted earlier that I thought I had a few momento ink pads and would try them on my clear stamps however I don't own any. I was thinking of a different brand. Does anyone know where I could buy the momento ink pads cheap with low shipping?
addicted to rubber stamps is having a sale 15% off - I don't how the shipping is as I haven't ordered from them lately but always have had good service in the past.
Why don't you just keep the stamp pads you do use from SU? They are still great for stamping with even though you use PTI.

I am keeping the few that I use but I am selling the other 40 stamp pads plus ink refills. I need the space in my craft room. Still would like to own a few basic colors to make my collection a little more complete.
You mention using clear stamps -- many have said that chalk inks give the best coverage, while many standard dye inks will bead up. You may want to try chalk ink perhaps in "spot" size to save you space.
Ranger Distress inks are a fave (not just for distressing either), Adirondack by Ranger, Marvy, Memories, anything with a nice stiff raised pad works for me. I love the Versafine for just black images- the detail is amazing and they emboss so nicely. I don't care for any SU ink pads, they all sag in the middle and for me they are very awkward to hold (I seem to drop them alot and I can't stand their flip open covers!)

This is one of the reasons why I stopped using SU ink when I switched over to mainly clear stamps. They don't give that really crisp coverage I like.
I think I might try some of the momento small ink pads. This way I can save some space in my craft room and I can get more colors for my money. I do have a few vivid ink pads that seem to work really well, too.
I bought all of the Memento Dew Drops at Scrapbooking Alley, back when they had free shipping. But still a great deal at $16.79 per pack. If you get both packs, then you have all of the colors available. They also sell the individual dew drops for $1.59 and the full sizes for $3.65.

I definitely have to agree about the Memento inks. I have a few clear stamp sets and they work quite well on them. I bought all the dew drops because of space issues. I'll probably eventually get full size pads later when I figure out what my favorites are.

I am another Distress ink lover here. Lately I have also started using these pretty cool chalk inks called Powder puffs (it's like $26 for 12 colors) and those work great with clear stamps, where the distress inks I find are not the best for them. I don't use a lot of clear stamps though, so for me that is not an issue.

I love the TH distress inks for alot of things, but I find I can't use them with the clear stamps. They just bead up and I can't get good ink coverage so the image is always spotty and uneven. But, love them with my red rubber stamps and for, well, distressing! I've been eyeing the Memento Dew Drops too, so maybe I too will try some of those. Doesn't Michael's sell them as well in like packs of 3 or 4?

Even though they are part dye, part pigment, I prefer Colorbox Fluid Chalk ink pads. They dry quickly, but give great coverage and work great on clear stamps too.
If it's dye ink only that you want, then I also prefer Memento dye inks as they stamp a clean image and dont 'bleed' when using them with copics. I do love distress inks and use them a lot, but not with my clear stamps as I find the image isn't clear or the ink beads on the stamp.
If it doesn't have to be a dye ink, then my favs would be Ranger Archival and Brilliance inks.
I like the Palette inks for clear stamps, these are the one PTI carries. Chalk inks are nice plus they are just fun to play with. I mostly use my SU inks though being a demo but if I wasn't demo or even if I just had the space to store more inks I would have a bunch of Palette and Color Box chalk inks. I do know that The Angel Company carries Palette ink pads, spot sets and inkers and there prices are not bad either.
Gina K sells memento ink pads. I buy the small size. In addition to great coverage, you can color with Copics with them and they do not stain clear stamps. Awesome ink pads.

I didn't know that you could use the momento ink pads with copics! That is great to know. Thanks!
Another vote for the Colorbox Fluid Chalk inks...I have every single color in full size and cats eyes and the refills which are hard to find...These are so great with clear stamps!
blessings.
How do you all store the your pads?? I have a lot of SU ink pads that go into the holder that SU sells but I really don't know how to store my other pads.
This is a great thread! I have a big variety of stamp pads, so I stamp the color on a bit of white cardstock and tape it to the bottom, I put a D or P there, too, for Dye or Pigment. When I store them upside down in my plastic chest of drawers, I have separate shallow drawers for neutrals and for colors. I do this for Colorbox Petal Points too. These are good for starting your Chalks collection. I like the pigment petal points sets, as well.
I store my ink pads in little white plastic baskets from the dollar store (the shorter ones). One basket for pigment, one for dye, etc. Of course, I think I might end up outgrowing this system as I collect more pads! Oh, and I store my pads upside down, too, except for the SU! ones I have. I hear that keeps the ink closer to the tops of the pad.
Does anybody know, can you color with markers the images you have stamped in chalk ink? You know, I don't think I've ever tried that, could be an experiment to try!
Oh, I like the Colorbox petal points too. Good way to get different colors and it's nice that you can take each color out individually. I like the Colorbox pigment pads that are long and have about a dozen colors each, you can take each color out individually on those too.

I like my distress inks, but if Im colouring with my copics then I use Memento inks. But I have to say that mostly for images that need to be coloured I use versafine.
I really like the Memento dye inks. Their ink doesn't "bead up" on clear stamps like SU. I've ordered most from oozak.com as they have free shipping w/$50 order & have Great customer service. They carry the full size pads, dew drop size, markers & refills. My HL also carries the full size pads - try the Tuxedo Black, Lady Bug (red), Rich Cocoa & Cottage Ivy - you can use a coupon!
