Question What colors of ribbon do I need?

I am getting ready to place an order for SU ribbon and I can't decide what colors and sizes I will use the most. Since I can't have them all where would be a good place to start? What do you use the most? Thanks

The colors I use alot are:

Choclate Chip Ribbon
Always Artichoke
Certain Celery
Light Pink
White

I bought all of mine except the Artichoke before they retired, so I am not sure what is available now. I know the chocolate is only in the bigger ribbon now.

I add a few reels to each order. I did buy all the stitched in colors all at once though - just had to have them NOW!

I use red and rose the most. Dont know why. Seems I almost always put some kind of ribbon on my cards.

My suggestion: if you can't figure out what colors to get, get white grosgrain in either size, if not both. It can be dyed to any color with the reinkers. There's a tutorial here on SCS that will help you do it. Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers

I personally have white, celery, apricot, real red, pumpkin pie, always artichoke in the 1/4" grosgrain. I also have the Wild Wasabi, Groovy Guava and Blue Bayou double stitched.

Must haves for me are black, chocolate, white, vanilla, pink, certainly celery, and always artichoke. I have several other colors, but those get used the most.

I think I am going to have to invest in reinkers now. Thanks for the link.

Does anyone know if you can dye a small piece of ribbon with the felt pens?

I am addicted to the wide grosgrain! I love the real red, old olive, brown, white, cream and certainly celery.

Couple of ideas - does your demonstrator offer a ribbon share? That's how I got started, and it was a big help. I was able to get a yard or two of each color and style and see which ones I actually used the most; then I reordered full spools of them when I ran out.

If not, maybe you could team up with a stamping friend (or your demo might know of someone) and split colors/styles with her.

Otherwise, I'd say look over your cards (or the gallery) and see which colors you tend to favor and go with those. I use them all and it would be really hard to pick one or two favorites.

I've also dyed ribbon and that works great when I don't have a particular color, but I find that I'm usually reaching for what I already have on hand and foregoing the bother. (Guess I'm impatient). It does work, though.

Anyhow, have fun with it!

Here is a thread that discusses this very subject. Dyeing ribbon with markers starts on post #9

Whenever I start to collect colors of something, be it paper, ink, or embellishments, I start with red, white, and black. You can use red for Christmas, Valentine's, birthdays, boys or girls. Then black and white, one or the other will match anything. Then I add brown, then pink, and lt. blue. Of course, I have every color grosgrain SU makes and still want more.

I always buy the in colors becuase once they are gone you have to scour Ebay for them. I also have black white and chocolate chip and use those a lot. Plus i do dye my white if I feel the need for a splash of color

White is a must because you can dye it. I also agree with black and red.

I also use vanilla, pink, turquoise, bashful blue,. . . I really like grosgrain ribbon!!

I really appreciate all of the input. It helps to know what others have used when starting a "collection" of something.

Another option is to go to an outside source for ribbon. There are many threads here about buying ribbon (ok, so there are threads about everything!). One place which is highly recommended is
http://ribbonandbowsohmy.com/
I have shopped there and was quite pleased with their offerings! Plus, they have a lot of other colors to play with!

If you want to stick with SU though, I think the suggestion of just buying the white and using classic ink reinkers/pads is a great idea- especially since SU does not sell ribbon in all it's colors! I only have craft ink and am lazy, so I like RABOM

Thanks for the link. I went to their site and was surprised at the good prices. I forgot to see what shipping was though.

celery 3/8", real read in the 5/8" and chocolate in the 5/8 are my 3 faves. But I also like the Ribbon Originals, especially Theater!
