Default We are decades ahead of the newest fad

Have you seen the newest fad? Are you ready? The newest fad is.....coloring! It seems that all of a sudden grow ups are finding coloring to be a great way to reduce stress and have fun.

for years we have been discussing coloring, threads and threads of: Colored pencils, Water color, Dye based markers, Alcohol markers, Pastels, Chalks, Using ink pads, Embossing power to color images, distress ink, and yes, even crayons!

we are the trend setter! Just took the rest of the nation a few decades to catch up to us.

Now, I am off to color something

I saw a news article that was talking about that. I wanted to send an email to tell them that what's new to them is really old to the rest of us. But then I thought about it ...

Recent fads:
Owls, owls, owls -- I am still sick of all the owls I had to see in the 1970s. I think everyone and their mother owned a jute macrame owl.

Pop dots -- this one I like. But I remember in the 1970s when we used small tubes of clear silicone. Whew! Did that stuff stink!

Big eyed anime kids -- Hate to tell the younger generation that the big eyed kids (especially those with creepy, sad, soulful eyes) were all the rage in the 1960s.

Mod Podge -- I cringe when I see people call in Modge Podge. The name is Mod, a 1960s term for "Hip" "New" "Cool" "Happening" (I'm too old to come up with a 2010 term). We would Mod Podge napkins onto smooth rocks, sometimes even typing on them first (with an old fashioned typewriter).

Foiling -- I still have a bottle of "special" glue and a roll of foil tape that I bought from Stampin Up back in the 80s. Maybe I should put them on eBay and sell them for three times the price I paid! (just kidding)

Now, I am thinking of reviving Pet Rocks and maybe Spin Art -- both are just within my crafting abilities. Wish I could crotchet, then I'd be wishing for the doll with the crocheted dress toilet paper covers to return. LOL

I have been way ahead of the fad back when I was 30...long time ago. I discovered Dover coloring books and would set and color when I had time. A big old family fight happened when my then husband threw my coloring book away. I have a big collection of their books. When I went to Austin, I saw an artist and said I wish I could color his pen and ink paintings. Lo and behold he made coloring books out of his art. And that was 26 years ago!!!

I love to color, but my complaint about the "adult" coloring books, is they are way too detailed. A girlfriend gave me a couple of pages out of her Secret Garden coloring book and the detail actually turned me off. Too many tiny spaces. I found myself squinting and gripping my pencil too hard. Too stressful for me! It would also be lovely to have to good images on nice water friendly cardstock to use my watercolor markers with.
