Default using SU! colors and Whisper White

Hey Everyone,

I am just curious how you use the SU! colors. Do you make a card from just colors in one of the 4 groups? Or use the same marker on the CS color?
I have the big marker pack, and I have found that the caps don't really
reflect the color, so I make a white CS guide with all the colors. That helps
me pick easier. Expecially Bravo Burgandy- much browner when used!

I have been obsessed with using the CS and trying to pick colors so I ordered
a ring with ALL the colors (and the new ones), that I can flip thru.
(It was only 12.50 from Alison Bair [email protected]) I love that,
been flipping and feeling all the papers. I took my markers and did a swoop
on each piece of cardstock so I can see them on the papers... some are
really light and hard to see, and some show up really well... Do you use
them on matching for backgrounds?

I also noticed that the feel of Whisper White is completely different from
the other CS.... is it different to work with? Take ink different?

I am trying to decide what to order for Christmas cards. I think I need
two blues, one pry wil be Night of Navy but not sure of the other. I want the
overall feel to be darker... any suggestions....

Thanks,
Anne

Here's my take on your questions.

Whisper white and very vanilla are smoother and take ink really well (nice crisp images), though some colors (like Real Red) take longer to dry on it than the colored cs. They are a lighter weight paper, which makes them ideal for layering but not very sturdy to use as card bases.

SU!'s colored cs is much sturdier and not quite as smooth as the white and vanilla. It makes great card bases. Stamping colors on it is hit or miss--so you just have to experiment. My personal preference for most colors is to stamp in the same color as the cardstock to create subtle backgrounds. The soft subtles can usually be stamped in any color and that color is more likely to stay fairly true, especially if it's darker.

I sometimes stay in one color family for cards, and sometimes mix and match from different families. Just depends.

I like night of navy with bordering blue or brocade blue for a monochromatic card.

Here is a great link to help you out with putting colors together. It lists all of the SU colors...pick the ones you like and it will suggest a color combo.

The SCS Color Challenge is a great place to start. Here is a link to the file Renee put together.

I should have added that if you find a combo you like (CC98 has Night of Navy, Brocade Blue, and Bravo Burgundy) you can search the gallery and pull the cards up made for that color challenge. Here is a link to CC98: Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

Easy to substitute another color in for a simliar color, too. If you think Bravo Burgundy is too brown, you could use last year's Cranberry Crisp or the new Purely Pomegranate.

Thanks! That is really cool.

By the way, I never said I didn't like Bravo Burgandy, lol, just that the marker is much browner than the lid leads you to believe!

hehehehehe

Default Color Wheel

I used to stick with the same grouping, i.e., Bold Brights, Earth Elements, etc. Until one day my demo showed demonstrated the color wheel at a stamp camp. LOVE IT! Granted, there are new colors since I bought my wheel, but the color combos are such that I would never have come up with on my own. In fact... I am working on a card now with Cameo Coral and low and behold, thanks to the wheel, I have coordinating colors. And would you guess that one of them is Glorious Green? I never would have thought it.

Also, though I personally haven't participated in the color challenges YET... I love looking at what others come up with. Great combos.
