I finally decided to replace my 20+ year old Big Shot with an electronic die cutter. After viewing Jennifer McGuire's review of die cutting machines, I took the plunge and purchased the Anna Griffin Empress. It is amazing! The first cuts are clean...none of those little annoying 'threads' hanging around. And it's incredibly quiet, considering it's electric. Now my only issue is how to run Tim Holtz 3D embossing folders through the machine? Thanks for any help!
If the manual did not mention using 3-D embossing folders, I'd suggest contacting customer service for Anna Griffin products. And of course, asking here might result in an answer from a member who has this machine. Best wishes.

TexasGrammy...thank you for the information. I just may send them an email to inquire. In the meantime, I held my breath and ran the sandwich with only the metal shim and one acrylic plate on top of the TH 3D embossing folder. It worked well. Phew!
I cannot express just how amazing my dies cut with this machine. I've been running my most intricate dies that always needed shims and several passes through my Big Shot. I feel like a kid at Christmas time!

Do you find it embosses as much as you would like?
is your metal shim quite warped?
just wondering how it has been going since you posted
I am also trying to figure out for Stampin’ Up! 3D embossing folders and the Sizzix Dynamic ones
My metal shim is fine. Lately, I've been reaching for my big shot when using 3D embossing folders. I'm too afraid to damage my Empress.
I think your use of the big shot with the 3D embossing folder is wise. I still have the original Cuttlebug and find myself using that. Can't give up my Little BUG.
Anyway, I bought 3D folders long before Tim's and I'm telling you, I can't remember the company, it wasn't Sizzix but I really jad to be so gentle with the folders because the sandwich was not easy to remember and it wasn't until a long time later that I learned to spray both sides of the paper.
Have fun. The deep embossing is so beautiful.🥰

Savagetwin you might be thinking of Spellbinders? They were early in the game with 3D folders. They are literally hinged and some people did not like that part.
I am finding 3Ds can be all kinds of thickness...so I use my label printer to put the sandwich on the folder. Who can remember? lol

TU, wave! I have about 3 of them. As soon as you said hinges, that was it. The designs were perfect. I still use them. They were larger than the A2 size, I believe. Yes, they were WAY head of thr game. As a matter of fact, I created invitations for my in-laws' 70th anniversary and FIL's 90th birthday, same time. The embossing was still so beautiful. Ilove the construction. I didn't know there were complaints..TU🥰🥰🥰
someone posted that when she figures out the sandwich that works for a 3D embossing folder she writes it on the EF to know for next time. I've started doing that too.

You're welcome
I think the hinges broke for some people?
oh yes! They are like 5 x 7s not A2s. Nice size for event invitations esp if you are adding in RSVP cards etc And very 3D before we were calling it that. I have a couple.
I have no idea how they would work in an electric unit. Only used them in manual.

I have a Vagabon II and I finally broke down and bought the new Spellbinders plates that I use with the Vagabond only for embossing. I printed out the Spellbinders chart and have been editing it as I come across brands That aren't on the chart. It has gone very well so far. I did strip the gears in my first Vagabond, so I am EXTREMELY careful.
As for the Empress, I have the Empress Mini sitting on my desk which I use constantly for sutting all the pieces of fiddly things. I LOVE it. So handy, so powerful, so quiet.
