Can someone please tell me what the texture is like on the surface of the new SU ink pads? I see the catalog says it's "firm foam", but does it have a linen texture on the top or is it like the Vivid pads which are more like a sticky smooth foam? I love the coverage of Vivid pads but I'm having a hard time finding them and was hoping that the new SU pads had that same surface. TIA!!
I'm not much help...I don't own any Vivid pads...but I don't see any kind of "texture" on the top of the new SU ink pads (like the old ones!)!! So "sticky smooth foam" seems like a good description!! I CAN tell you that they stamp WONDERFULLY!! VERY good coverage, with little pressure!!! I've already replaced 3 of my color families (Brights/Subtles/InColors)....and will probably replace the other 2 (Neutrals/Regals) on my next order!!!
Just got home from a stamp a stack where the new pads were used. LOVE THEM. BEST INK PADS I'VE USED IN 20 YEARS OF STAMPING!! Bigger stamp images get full coverage of ink and you don't need to stand up and press all your weight into the stamp to get ink coverage. The old ink pads are "hard." These have some obvious "sponge" and "give" that better covers the image you are trying to stamp.
Seriously, would love ALL colors in the new pads. Realistically? I have about 40 ink pads and reinkers already. Won't be switching them out. Am going to make the others work until the reinkers are gone.

Other than five colours which had their ink reformulated(Basic Black, Basic Gray, Tempting Turquoise, Marina Mist, Perfect Plum), your old reinkers will work on the new firm foam pads.
And ... the new formulations for the five colours will work on both the new and old colours.
Which means ... you don't have to wait for your old reinkers to be used up before you get the new ink pads. ;)
When I opened my new-style pads, the first thing I thought of was the Vivid pads I used over 10 years ago. Same feel exactly. Really awesome -- try some!

I never used or owned any Vivid pads so I can't comment about that but I do truly love the new firm foam pads. I've bought some new InColor pads and I replaced my Pretty-in-Pink because I could not get the old PIP to stamp a complete image to my liking. The new PIP stamps great. I will be replacing some of my most used favorite colors.

Good points! lol
I'm still going to make my old hard style pads work until they choke. Still can't justify the upgrade, financially. If a person is a new stamper? They are in luck! Great ink pads to buy! I have one of the Vivid stamp pads and I agree. Just like them. Stampin Up probably bought out their patent. Nice stamp pads!
Has anyone tried the new ink pads with solid photopolymer stamps? I've never had much luck with the old style SU dye ink pads.
The stamped image looks fabulous using my photopolymer stamps. I bought a few SU pads to try them out. They worked so well I plan on buying the rest of the SU ink pads. Here is a card I made using PTI stamps and SU ink pads.
The texture is almost like a firm make up sponge. They are really nice. Much better at even coverage on solid stamps.
And yes they do remind me a lot of the Vivid pads (which I loved).
The Clearsnap Colorbox Premium Dye inks have the same type pad too.
I was playing around with the midnight muse and raspberry ripple the other day and I was comparing stamping with the old pads and the new ones. And there really was not much of a difference at all. I am disappointed. Also, I was using a baby wipe to clean off the midnight muse and I got the ink all over my fingers. It is harder to get off than the old ink or maybe it is just the m.m. color. (I use a piece of coral I picked up off the beach in Maui, and this generally works to get ink off my hands, but like I say the midnight muse was hard to get off. So far, I am not really that impressed although I have read that others are with the new ink pads. Anyways, right now I am not rushing to buy any new ink pads......
I saw a you tube video where someone compared the old and new on a solid rubber stamp and the difference was dramatic. But then others claim there is little to no difference.
I'm fascinated by the opposing views of identical product! So I bought some to form my own opinion. Can't wait for the new inks to get to my house.
