Glad to know a new one is coming. My catalog hasn't arrived, so I can't look. I have recently received one of the newer 3D folders and it works okay with a paper shim, but I would prefer a plate. What color is the new one?
Since the new SU machine and plates aren't available yet, none of the demos have one on their worktable. However, we have seen videos.
One thing that is obvious to me on the new plates...all of them...that is different from the old plates...is that the ends of the plates have beveled edges. I would imagine that it makes the uptake of the sandwich a little bit smoother. This won't keep you from using these new plates in your Big Shot.

Lisa, it looks grey in the catalogue. I did not know we can't order it yet though, so thanks Diane for posting.
Stampin up has their own machine in the new catalogue, so all the plates are going to fit that machine. I do not think they are the same size as the Sizzix ones. Haven't seen theactual dimensionsyuet. The machines looks kindof like the Spellbinders one. I am not a demo, just got a look at the new catalogue at my demo's house.
Can anyone tell me more about using the impression mats to emboss with the cutting dies instead of cutting? Do you need the specialty plate and the impression mats to do this or can I just get the impression mats and use the plate that came with my big shot?
Stampin' Up parted ways with Sizzix due to a legal issue so I am doubting that the new die cut machine from Stampin' Up will work successfully with a Big Shot. The new one looks very much like a Spellbinders.
Have you ever watched newer videos from Stephanie Bernard and The Stamps of Life? She is using her Big Shot plates with her Spellbinders machine. I will take a look and see if I can find one where she talks about the plates and link it. They Sizzix plates will work with the Spellbinders machine, but it takes a bit more work. They seem to want a few more passes to make them fit the machine. Just thought I would mention it for those who wonder.
Here is a video showing the Silhouette Platinum with the Sizzix plates about 6:40 into it, you can pause and see a close view.

I bought the Big Shot embossing mats from SU which has a gray mat, a white impression pad and a blue thin silicon rubber mat. To emboss only:
big shot platform (no thin die adapter)
standard cutting pad
die (cutting edge up)
single sheet of paper
thin silicone rubber mat (blue)
impression pad (white)
I bought this from the previous catty though, so the new catty has a different offering for the new machine they are getting. Sorry, if that has not helped in what you were wanting to know.
Today on Stephanie Bernard’s Live, she said to use Spellbinders plates with the Spellbinders machine. The plates are a bit smaller than the Big Shot plates and fit the machine much better. So the lesson I walked away with is to not mix machine plates and stick with the same brand. I guess I will continue to shim my 3D embossing folders with paper in my Big Shot.

Thank you! That gives me an idea of how they work. I appreciate it
I've seen a Jennifer McGuire video where she does embossing with a die, instead of cutting. She's using a Platinum machine, but she says in works in any machine, and I know I've seen her do it in a Big Shot too. Just following either the instructions on the applicable platform of the machine, or she says that she will often use the sandwich recommended for embossing folders. Link to video
Now that SU's new machine is out for demonstrators to purchase, I have been seeing a few videos where they are showing the machine. It looks just like Spellbinders Platinum 6, in my opinion. I recently received the Fun Stampers Journey Platinum 6 which is in bright colors and is the same machine as the white Platinum 6. I have a Big Shot Plus which I am happy with, but struggled embossing the newest SU embossing folders. So, I took the embossing plate from the FSJ machine, used it with my Big Shot Plus and the embossing folder embossed perfectly with no shims. Basically I am sharing this for those who did not get the blue plate. If you can't get the blue plate when the demonstrators begin selling theirs, try the embossing plate when it comes available for purchase.
