Ok---I decided to finally ( ) use this punch to cover some notebooks and for the life of me, cannot figure out how to do it to make it fit regular spiral notebooks, like the ones kids use in school.
There isn't any way to adjust how far apart the punch makes the holes if that's what you're asking. You can only use the spiral punch for notebooks that have the holes the same width apart that the punch does.
There was a spiral punch tutorial by Alana Galagher in Jan 2008. It explained how to use the spiral punch for other spiral notebooks than the SU one. I tried it and it worked on a small spiral notebook I happened to have on hand. I don't know if it is still on her blog or not. The address is alanagalagher.blogspot.com.
Oh my goodness, thank you so much for pointing out the tutorial! I love my punch but had no idea you could tweak it to fit those other spiral notepads.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! It's exactly what I needed!!!
Glad to be of service. I love how this site has so many generous, helpful people. I think Ms. Galagher did a wonderful job on her tutorial. Her pictures and explanations are very concise and easy to follow. Even I was able to get good results on the first try. (My 'circular file' can sometimes be filled to overflowing!)
As crafters, we want every purchase to be of use for more than that of the original purpose. I, like many others here, am a chronic saver of 'stuff' that I will be able to use for ......
I love my spiral punch too! I do find, however, that sometimes it's easier to use a Cropadile for the journals that don't match up. I like that you can set the guide to punch the holes at the exact depth the whole way down, and the circular punches match up better with the journals that have circlular holes - instead of punching a square over a circle, KWIM?

Okay. I'm a little slow, but I didn't even know there was such a thing as a spiral punch. What's the verdict? Is it the right spacing for regular spirals you get at Walmart or Walgreens????
