Who wants this? I saw it at my new and improved Michael's store
yesterday.
It is $149 - but current coupon of 40% off 1 item does not say you can't buy it. hmmmmmm
may have to get Hubby to go get it and put it up for
christmas

wow thats awesome if you can use the coupon! I like the look of it, just don't like the idea of having to apply glue to the glass mat all the time! I am waiting for more reviews of it to come out!
A scrapbook store near me got 5 in Friday and they all sold the first day, plus orders for 4 more. I think it's kinda limited but it does look cool for portability and the nice fonts available.

It looks cool but I'm not into it at all. It looks really slow and the cartridges are spendy. I'd rather use a punch or die-cut, much faster (or Cricut!)
I originally wanted one before MM bought the rights to the machine and limited the type of cards that could be used with it to its proprietary designs. I was so disappointed with the limitation they put on the machine. I believe the original machine's design allowed you to download your own shapes & fonts from your computer onto an SD card and use it in the machine which would have been so much better and far more flexible. I've decided not to buy it now.
When I go to the whyslice.com website there isn't anywhere that lists the price of the design cards. Can anyone give me an idea of how much they are going for?

I agree completely. I already have a bug and don't need another cutter for predesigned designs. (I realize Slice is more flexible with sizes but - I want my own)

Check with online stores or local stores to see who's carrying them for what price. I didn't see any pricing info on the myslice page.
I bought one last week and it was $149.00 + tx. It included a 6x6 glass plate, 5 blades, 1 cartridge-Basic 1, pinchers to help replace the blades, glue tube and sponge brush to spread the glue.
The scrap store where I purchased it said that MM does not want us to use the glue that comes with it but did not say why. The sales girl said that they use "Herma" removable adhesive (3-4 lines on the sheet being used) and this worked great for me. On the web site I see what looks like a small aerosol can of glue so maybe that's what they will be selling instead. This machine, in my opinion, is great for me and those who do cards or anything smaller then 4 inches. I believe this could be considered a micro mini sister to the Cricut. lol. To the gal that mentioned having to hold it while it works...it really takes no longer then 30 seconds or so. I think a 4" cut may take a little longer but not much. (The smaller the cut the faster the machine). The cartridges run $39.99 and has tons of stuff. I also got a limited coupon for something that I will not receive until after Feb. 29, 2009. They think it's another free cartridge...I hope. I'm sure like the Cricut they will keep making more versions but for now it looks like I'm loving my Slice.
OH yes, they also have a 12x12 glass sheet that I think is a must have.
Sounds cool, I would love one! I have a Cricut and Cuttlebug but love MM and must have everything they sell, plus love their angel policy, much nicer then provo crafts for those that sell cards!
Thats funny about the glue. If you look at old clips of MM with the slice, they used a spray glue in a can but then recently switched to the tube of glue, I thought that was strange as the spray glue looked a lot easier. The tube of glue kinda put me off as I am lazy!!
Hopefully one day I am be the proud owner of a Slice!
I'm pretty upset with the ppl I pre-ordered the Slice with. TWO machines. They claims MM messed up their orders and won't be getting them in until mid November. While everyone is getting theirs in now, I have to sit quietly and wait another 2-3 weeks.
What is this spray adhesive? Or any adhesive for that matter.. That is a turn off.
I can not make mine cut a complete circle.
There is always one area that is a little flat.
Anyone else noticed that? I called M's today
and they had one returned because of that
problem. The one inch cuts are not detailed
at all but the booklet tells you that will happen.
Also, some images can't be cut at all sizes.
I like the portable size and the battery. Should
be easier at crops.
On the demos they did, they spray glue or apply glue to the glass mat so the paper stays still when you are cutting. Like the cricut mats etc are tacky.
Yes, the glue is used to make the mat tacky to hold the paper. If your paper cannot fully stick to the mat, the blade can catch and tear your paper. My LSS told me they believe there must have been some issue with the glue. They (the store) is using Tombo Mono Multi while they wait for MM to send some new glue.
The extra coupon thing that someone mentioned is available in MM VIP stores. Basically, you will get a limited edition cartridge that is only available to those customer who purchase their Slice from a VIP store. I believe it is a Seasons cartridge.
I think retail on the cartridges are $39.99. Keep in mind these cartridges are not like the size of the Cricut cartridges. They are more like the size of a memory card in your camera.
I'd like to know what the glue/adhesive is for too?
Sorry, just can't figure it out.
You have to put adhesive on the underside of the paper your going to cut. This will lay on the glass mat. I thought I'd be smart and just taped the corners for my first try and that didn't work out so well. The theory is that you have to make sure it stays flat or the blade will not form the design. In my case the word "dream" kept puckering. Once I use the Herma tape it came out perfect.
I'm seeing some mixed reviews here...I just want to know one thing - from any of you that have it: How does it cut through Bazzill or other substantial cs? Completely clean?

YES, which surprised me a little bit because the pamphlet tells you that if you don't get a clean cut you may have to adjust the blade. Right out of the box it has consistantly cut through Bazzil and Prism which is what I use more of. Also the 2 sided heavy paper like Basic Grey.
well I broke down and ordered a slice today from my LSS. I don't have any of the electric machines (cricut, silhouette, etc) but this one looked like it would simple enough for me to use, i don't need large dies, I really only do cards, no scrappages, and i think it will be useful for work( teach 1st grade) too.
I have to wait about 2 weeks to get it, the demo of it looked pretty simple and straight forward to me and I like that.
I will post me official opinion once i get it in my hands!!!

I think you made a wise choice. Great for card makers like us.:-D
I am getting mine in on Monday. I can't wait. Good thing I know about the glue issue because I hadn't heard of that and I do the ordering at the Scrapbooking store. I think I will just have to call them on monday

That would be a good idea. Please let us know what they'll be doing about that because so far no one, including myself, knows for sure. For now Herma is the way to go for me.

I will be happy to let every one know what they tell me. It really surprise me that they would do that. The slice was suppose to come out in July but they had some production issues so you would think in this time they also would have a little thing like glue figured out.
My slice is on it's way! It's perfect for me. I don't have room to store a lot of tools. I was waiting for something like this to come out. Wendy at ScrapSupply has a great video demo. It's starts when she first opens the box. She cuts Bazzill first, then some double sided dp.
She used the adhesive that came with it, but says you are supposed to let it dry and get tacky before you put your paper down. http://www.scrapsupply.com/forums/vi...07904ad65723c6
The mailman just brought mine yesterday and I love it! Cuts great and is so portable. I don't have room for a larger die cut machine, so this really fits the bill. Now I won't have to buy all those punches so I figure I'm saving money. Well that is what I'm telling my darling hubby. The glue works just fine, over and over again. You don't have to apply it every time. The carts have a lot of designs, font and sizes. It is fast enough for me, doesn't take long at all. I figured that the largest setting at 4" is practical for a 12x12 but if not I'll use my girl friends Cricut (you don't need to buy one if you have the Circut unless you want portability or small storage)
I was worried about the sound(a little loud sometimes) it was making but I think that it is normal. I'll keep you posted to see how it goes, it being new and all. Hope it keeps up the good work. I really wish some one was brave enough to try and make their own card and see if it would work but I don't want to mess mine up.
When I go to the whyslice.com website there isn't anywhere that lists the price of the design cards. Can anyone give me an idea of how much they are going for?
I bought the Slice yesterday and it is terrific, The design cards are $39.99. And they have some really cute cuts. Also the longest it takes to cut is about 45 seconds and that is for the more intricate pieces, like snowflakes. Really neat machine.

You don't have to put glue or adhesive on your paper. You put it on the mat. The type that dries sticky. It lasts for many cuts and comes with the machine. It dosn't miss up your paper either. Cuts nice and crisp. Love mine.

Cards are $39.99. You get one when you buy the machine and then when you fill out the warrenty card and send it in they send you another. I love my slice.

Yes you are suppose to use the glue that comes with it.

Thanks so much...who knows why MM told them not to use it??? I still kinda like the Herma repositional tape better. It seems like it wouldn't be as messy. You just roll it off your glass plate and it comes off easily. This is what I meant earlier, if you use Herma you have to put it on your paper. If you use the glue it goes on the glass mat.
I made a bag-in-a-box and used my Slice to make the tag on it. I have more specific details about it posted on my blog today but here's a picture of my project.
Just got my Slice yesterday, but had a killer headache and was not able to play. :( But I was psyched since my LSS had it on sale for 129.99 with the free exclusive cartridge rebate from MM. I did contact MM regarding custom designs, and here is their reply:

Hi!
Thank you for your email and interest in the SLICE. There was a customizing software idea released by Tinnus (the company who created the Slice) before we partnered with them. Since then, it has been an idea that Making Memories is considering, but has not released any firm information on the project at this time.
Thank you and please let us know if you have any other questions.

Maybe if we all send them some feedback on this, they will realize that most people would love the ability to customize their own designs... and move a bit faster on releasing the software. Anyways, I am super happy I got it, I have wanted a Cricut forever, and this is much more portable and affordable.

I was thinking of buying the Slices toll also and always though that they will have a software with it as per their Demo video. I did not know they changed it since I read this thread. I will probably wait to see if they will come our with a software
Bought mine this afternoon, love it love it LOVE it!! I'm a card maker, not a scrapbooker; didn't want to spend so much $$ on the larger machines (Cricut, etc), and didn't need such a large cutting space. So for me, this is FABULOUS!! Cuts like a DREAM, and will actually cut anywhere at all on your 12 X 12 piece of paper. Happy happy joy joy!
I just ordered mine. I got a super awesome deal. I do not own any of the cricut machines (would love to some day) so I figured that this would be a great alternative. There seem to be good reviews so far so I hope I didn't make a mistake.
