When I use my sizzix, sometimes (lots of times) the alphabet letters don't completely "punch" out after running through the machine. I then have to use scissors on them. This is a really big headache and I am wondering if I am doing it wrong, or if everyone has this problem.
I have had that problem before what I did was take some thick cardstock and taped it to the back of the white matt. then it gives me more pressure to cut thru. I hope this makes sence.

Yes some times you need to build it up just keep trying untill you get the right depth, but sometimes if you use a differnt thickness of cardstock you need to take some off/ on. HTH

Some bigger shapes I have to push the handle down 2 or 3 times and then it is cut. Also I agree with replacing the white pad. I always flip my around so it cuts evenly and I can use it longer.

it came with a thin paper shim, but after a while the cutting mat gets more and more compressed so you may have to add to the shim, and then after a while, turn your mat over, shim the side you were cutting on, and cut now on the clean surface, then after a while it will be time to replace your cutting mat.
I use the text weight paper shim that comes with it, when they won't cut through. If it still doesn't I add another thin paper shim. I've never used cs shims. Try them all & see what works for you. Sometimes it's just that thin little paper that will pull it off. JMO
What lever are you talking about that you press a few times? I just got my cricut a few weeks ago and have not figured this out yet. Also, what shim did it come with? I don't recall seeing anything like this. And just when I thought I finally had it figured out...........Oh well.
