That pic even had my DH and 16 yr old son laughing! Right now my ribbon is neatly organized in old suitcases under the spare bed in my scraproom, but I do believe I'm going to have to put together a system like some of these. I have an old glass towel bar that I think would work nicely with binder rings. It always so much easier to think when I can see what I have! Thanks for the ideas!
I love the idea of ribbon rings but I too worry about my cat and DUST!! My ribbons are tied with white twist ties and stored in jars. I started doing the wrap around the clothespin thing but I got stuck with the straight pins used to hold the ribbon on the clothespins! And the clothes pins take up too much room. I just wind my ribbon, fold a twist tie in half, slide over the ribbon and twist. For velvet, I just go very gently so I dint crush the pile. The jars have metal spring loaded thingies on them and are from Ikea. They come in 4 sizes. I use the two middle sizes. And they look so pretty on my shelf!

I don't have cats, but I could see my dog wanting to play tug-of-war with the ribbons if they were hung loose like that! We can't even leave our sneakers laying around or he pulls on the shoe strings, I could just visualize what he could do with all my ribbons!

For those of you who are worried about their animals messing with their ribbon, you could always put a cover over it. That is what I did when I had to transport my ribbon ring. I put a big trashbag over it, with the ring going through the bottom of the bag. the bag was plenty big enough to fit all the ribbon inside and even tie the ends to secure. I used a trash bag because it was just temporary but if you need a permanent solution, you could always make a cover or have one made for next to nothing. It's just an idea that I thought I would share. I know the cover kind of defeats the purpose of being able to see your ribbon but if you remove it when you are ready to use the ribbon you still can see it all. Make sense?
I liked the idea of the ribbon ring, but did not want to spend the mula...as I have tons of ribbon. So, I used badge holders from Office Max and binder rings to attach them to. I hang the binder rings in the closet in my scrapbook room.
QTPY, do you have a pic of yours? I don't have a Cricut and don't want to pay the price of the ribbon ring.
Ladies where do you buy these ribbon rings? I thought I subscribed to a thread that featured this but I guess I must have deleted it. I have mounds of ribbon from different sources and I really need to get it organized. TIA Debbie
for those of you who don't have a cricut and would like the cards, send me an email or PM and maybe we can work soemthing out where I can cut them for you. I find the ones cut from the DSP backing chipboard are much more sturidier than you might think. I thought they were anyhow.
Sharon Johnson, aka notimetostamp, has ribbon rings in her online store. You can go to her website to check them out! Blogs at Splitcoaststampers
HTH!
And she (Sharon Johnson) is actually a smidge cheaper than the actual makers of the ribbon ring. I wish I knew that before I ordered from them! I'm very pleased with mine. I got 3 of those Target ribbon organizer boxes onto one ring. Now I can sell those puppies! Whoo hooo!
A few post back, a few mentioned not wanting to spend the $ on the RibbonRing. I just ordered it for $8. Comes with the ring and 30 tags, and inventory stickers. Thirty tags holds about 90 ribbons.
I saw this and immediately thought this was an awesome idea. Right now my ribbon is in a drawer and digging through it is driving me nuts. If it works out well, I know what my daughter will be getting in her Christmas stocking.
Did the price drop?

I got that from their own site at www.ribbonring.com. It was $8 for the starter package and 3.25 shipping. If I like it, I'm ordering for my daughter and more rings for myself.
I missed out on the free shipping, she has a blog with specials all the time. MIght want to keep an eye out over at her blog at http://ribbon-ring.blogspot.com/
She is currently having a sell on two of the bulk packages.

I purchased the 500 piece set ( 300 regular 200 Jumbo ) and used all but a few jumbo ones. Had to place an order last night for more of the regular size ones. I think I have way TOO MUCH ribbon. I have spent the last 4 days putting my ribbons onthe ribbon rings. I sorted by color and theme.

Wow! That's a lot of ribbon! But I bet they are beautiful!!

I love my ribbon rings. I got mine from scrapbook.com, they have a starter kit that is reasonable. I have 5 rings, organized into organza, lace, printed, and color families, hanging on cup hooks in the wall beside my desk.
The tags are easily copied if you run out. They are not difficut to thread the ribbon on, I simply slide my ribbon through the slot (like hanging pants on a hanger), and can put 3-4 ribbons on each tag. I have found that the average spool holds about 3yards, and that length of ribbon hangs nicely. For larger spools I usually hang some and keep the rest in a box, I put a little sticker dot (comes with the tags) on the strand of ribbon to show I have more for when it runs out.
Why I love it, it's handy, it's easy to grab a ring and hold the whole bunch up to match paper, and when I am creating I can just hold up my work and cut the length I need without even taking it off the tag. I am a visual scrapper, I need to see the ribbon draped over the project, spools were a pain because I was always unrolling and re-rolling them.

I got my Ribbon Ring and OMG....I just love it. I don't have much ribbon yet, but what I have it organized and nicely displayed, easy to see what I have. Adding new ribbon as I buy it will be a snap. Great investment, and a small investment at that.

I put my ribbons on rings also, but I just got the little sets of cardboard and rings for embroidery floss at Michaels. Its just a dollar or two for a set with big rings and I think 28 of the tabs. I just cut a slit across the tab, and the ribbon goes through the slot. For wider ribbons, I'm going to make some kind of tabs myself, haven't gotten there yet. I use one color of ribbons per ring, and hang the rings on a hook on the back of the door under the Crop in Style punch holder. At the bottom there is a tab, and I hang a double hook there. I have found it easy to use, when I need a ribbon I can see all the shades of the color and choose the best one for the project.
I slip knotted mine on a couple old wire clothes hangers. I have cubes for storing my stamps and supplies, so I just hooked my hangers onto the side of the cubes.
I used Sure Cuts a Lot. I don't have Design Studio. I have the .Scut files, the SVG files I made them from, and the jpegs I started with if your interested in those. I attached everything in a zip file. HPH!
I also attached pictures of my ribbon. I haven't been able to find the rings to hang the tags on yet, so I've got them hung on long wooden cotton swabs with eyelets keeping the ribbon from falling off ;).
This folder seems to be invalid. Does anyone have one?

I created ribbon rings a couple of years ago but, I have too much various ribbons and it started to get messy and in my way. Then I saw Becca Freeken's ribbon storage system and I fell in love. I just love opening my drawer for the sake of it and admiring all my ribbons.
One issue I found with the ribbon being wrapped around the cards...it made wrinkles(?) on the ribbon. I purchased a craft iron but found it was a hassle to plug it in and wait forever for it to heat up...drag out the ironing mat/board and iron the ribbon flat. I was in a drug store and spotted a flat iron for hair....it is small, compact, comes with a carrying case....super fast to heat up...and works like crazy!

This is a wonderful product, and she has decided to get out of the ribbon ring business (see ribbon-ring.blogspot . com ) I discovered the sad news when I went on line to order more. She is putting it up for sale, so maybe someone will buy it and continue to produce them. Meanwhile I guess I'll make my own. Regarding some of the previous comments: (1) I cover them with newspaper baggies to keep the dust out. (2) They would definitely be a cat magnet. Not really a problem for me because I had to make my craft room/office a cat-free zone several years ago (for a variety of reasons) and have not regretted it. (3) I'll be making my own from plastic very similar to the original product; I wish I had a Cricut to use for this but alas, I'll be doing them by hand!
I forgot all about the ribbon ring. I just bought 50 2" acco rings on ebay for less than $9....and I can cut the tags myself like some of you did - great thread, all

I bought 2 ribbon rings about the same time we got a new kitten. Never gave it a thought! Our old cat wouldn't have given the ribbons a sidewise glance. Ginga loved the hanging ribbons and I would often find ribbons on the floor that she had pulled out. We moved last year and I no longer have a craft room and no where to hang my ribbon rings. My ribbons are now in a drawer but had to be moved higher last week because Ginga could open the drawer!
I would thoroughly recommend ribbon rings to anyone who does not have a kitten. The ribbons looked very pretty hanging in from the rings.
